Timing out issues makes product a failure Date: Feb 24 2023
Summary: Moodle gave me chaos theory when I tried to theme it. Chamilo does not allow theming except to change the header picture unless you want to jump through hoops. Both are free. I had to use Chamilo because I could at least not see chaos, plus they do have more question variations. Still, if I were to use this in a production site with real students and teachers, I'd hire a programmar to create me a better software and not use anything else. Why? Better chances of it just working for all people without the blatant discrimination with that timing out issue! Plus, you'll be able to have student themes such that those who need bright yellow background with black text can have it. Those who need dark mode to feel calmer can have it. You can accommodate special needs children but only if you hire the right programmer!
Positive: Question options are Ace when they work. Reading question does not work as it spins and doesn't load or save. I do like that I can create several questions under multiple answers, by using the answer space on the left side only, to put in questions that are numbered, with the answer choices going below each question. I also add 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d to each answer as well, just to be sure it's not confusing for the student. This set up I use when the questions are for a reading comprehension problem. I put the story to read in the "enhance question" part instead of using their buggy Reading comprehension.
Negative: Timing out issue. Students and teachers both time out in using the product. You will time out creating questions and then lose all data on that specific question and have to start over. People who have a permission slip to take longer on that test can not use Chamilo period! Teachers can not use Chamilo to create more complicated tests. Anything requiring thinking, in order to create the test can not be done on Chamilo. Chamilo was designed to prevent all cheating and insist that even the admin is a cheater!
