Summary: This is definitely a tool that would come highly recommended if you are at all considering migrating your current IT backbone to Azure in any capacity. This will help streamline how you document and manage your data assets.
Positive: As my company has begun its journey to the cloud, we have partnered with Microsoft on its Azure platform for a number of initiatives including modernizing our reporting and business intelligence platform. With the large number of disparate systems in our organization, Azure Analysis Services has really helped to provide a unified view of all our data assets and inventory in a centralized location.
Negative: While this tool will help to alleviate a lot of the headache in unifying and documenting multiple data models, it is not a magic bullet. There is a learning curve with using this tool, and ensuring that end users understand how this tool is being used. Some end users expect to just be able to throw things into this tool and see what comes out, which often is garbage in and garbage out. I hope that Microsoft can more succinctly define how this tool should best be used.
