ASCD is an extremely powerful tool for supply chain design, especially when your business requires multiple-stop shipments. It optimizes both the upper echelon of supply chain and multi-stop route territory simultaneously. ASCD is used to optimize supply chain networks while balancing various constraints, such as capacity. A simple example, but challenging as shown in the picture above, is to trade off inbound costs, warehousing/inventory carrying costs at DC's and outbound costs where outbound involves multi-stop routes with delivery frequency requirements. It is important to accurately model multi-stop deliveries costs, taking into account delivery frequency requirements, in order to have a solution that can be implemented.
