AWS Outposts Description
AWS Outposts is a comprehensive managed service that extends AWS’s infrastructure, services, APIs, and tools to nearly any data center, colocation facility, or on-site environment, ensuring a seamless hybrid cloud experience. It is particularly suited for workloads necessitating low latency access to local systems, processing data on-site, adhering to data residency requirements, and facilitating the migration of applications that depend on local systems. With AWS compute, storage, databases, and additional services operating locally on Outposts, users can utilize the complete spectrum of AWS offerings available in their region to develop, oversee, and enhance their on-premises applications with the familiar AWS toolkit. Additionally, a VMware version of AWS Outposts is set to launch soon, which will provide a fully managed VMware Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) that operates on the AWS Outposts infrastructure directly at customer locations. This new offering aims to combine the agility of VMware’s solutions with the robustness of AWS’s infrastructure, allowing organizations to optimize their cloud strategies effectively.
