Comprehensive Active Directory & Identity Governance Management — Powerful, Efficient, and Audit-Ready

    Date: Feb 27 2026

Summary: ManageEngine ADManager Plus is a powerful and efficient directory management platform that significantly simplifies Active Directory, Azure AD, and Office 365 administrative tasks. It delivers strong delegated access controls, bulk operations, compliance reporting, and automation capabilities that save time and reduce error. While it has a learning curve and requires thoughtful setup for complex workflows, its governance and audit strengths make it a reliable choice for mid-to-large IT teams managing extensive identity environments.

Positive: ManageEngine ADManager Plus provides robust administration and reporting for Microsoft Active Directory, Azure AD, Office 365, and Exchange environments. It excels at delegated user provisioning, bulk user updates, and automated workflows — drastically reducing manual AD management tasks. Pre-defined and customizable reports (like inactive accounts, group memberships, password status) help with audits and security reviews. Its role-based access and approval workflows ensure only authorized changes are enacted, improving governance. Integration with ticketing systems and scheduling of routine tasks further streamlines operations.

Negative: The interface, while functional, can feel dense when you first start — especially with so many report and workflow options. Setting up automation workflows and approvals requires careful planning and testing before production use. Report customization beyond provided templates can be limited; more complex reporting sometimes needs workarounds.

ManageEngine ADManager Plus: Efficient AD Management

    Date: Jul 29 2025

Summary: ManageEngine ADManager Plus is well-regarded for simplifying AD management, reducing manual scripting, and helping teams stay compliant with ease. It’s a smart choice for organizations that want automation, delegation, and centralized AD reporting at a fair price. While it excels in everyday operations, users in larger or complex AD environments may encounter performance and customization limits. Support experiences are mixed, but the product itself delivers strong day-to-day value.

Positive: ManageEngine ADManager Plus simplifies Active Directory management with bulk user operations, automation of routine tasks, and role-based delegation. It offers over 150 built-in compliance reports and an intuitive interface that reduces reliance on scripting, providing strong value especially for SMBs and mid-sized organizations.

Negative: ManageEngine ADManager Plus may lag in large environments, has a dated UI, limited report customization, and sometimes inconsistent support.

    Great for auditing and control

    Date: Aug 28 2021

Summary: I have been using ADManager Plus for a few years now. Whilst it isnt the slickest looking application out there, it is really comprehensive and gives you a good overview of your environment, inlcuding shares, servers, passwords, users and of course Active Directory.

The newer updates address some issues with MS365 integration which is good to have as reports that are more comprehensive than Microsoft 365 give you.

If you really need to automate things (for compliance and audit) then you really need to setup the auto-reports and schedule them so you get a good overview.

As I said, the software is quite comprehensive, but whether you need all of it is the question you need to ask. If you just want something to send you quick reports on active users, password expiry, etc, ADManager Plus may be overkill.

    Positive: Easy to setup.
    Lots of canned reports.
Lots of integrations - Google, Microsoft 365, etc.
    Support is good.
    Love the dashboard.
    User setup templates.

    Negative: Interface needs a refresh.
Takes a bit of time and patience to understand everything.
Be careful which version you choose as a lot of features are missing in the standard setup.
