Description
Apache JMeter™ is an open source tool developed in pure Java, intended for conducting load tests to assess functional behavior and performance metrics. Initially created for web application testing, its capabilities have grown to encompass various testing functions. This versatile software can evaluate the performance of both static and dynamic resources, including web applications that are dynamic in nature. By simulating substantial loads on a single server or a network of servers, it allows users to examine the system's resilience and analyze its performance across different types of loads. As a result, Apache JMeter has become an essential tool for developers and testers seeking to ensure optimal performance and reliability in their applications.
Description
Spitfire serves as a comprehensive self-hosted platform designed for load testing and performance monitoring, catering specifically to the needs of DevOps, QA, and SRE teams. It operates seamlessly on customer-managed infrastructure utilizing Docker or Kubernetes, featuring remote runners positioned in various locations that initiate connections without requiring inbound ports. Users can easily create tests using a browser-based editor without any scripting or by importing files from OpenAPI, Postman, HAR, k6, and JMeter. Each test can integrate various protocols and technologies, including HTTP, gRPC, WebSocket, Kafka, MQTT, SQL, and real browser interactions. Tests can function as low-load production monitors, running every 1 to 60 minutes and offering features like drift detection, SLOs, error budgets, and a status page, or as staged distributed load tests to identify performance limitations and critical breaking points. Additionally, insights from OpenTelemetry and alerts from monitoring tools such as Datadog, New Relic, Dynatrace, Zabbix, and Instana can be utilized to analyze performance issues. A/B testing comparisons can also act as gates for CI releases, ensuring quality control. Furthermore, Spitfire includes essential features like a production-write guard, SSO/SCIM integration, comprehensive audit logging, and offline licensing options for installations in air-gapped environments. Notably, a free edition is available that does not come with any expiration date, making it accessible for ongoing use. This makes it an attractive option for teams looking to enhance their performance testing capabilities without financial commitments.
