Description
Recap is privacy-first crypto tax software built in the UK. It was founded in 2018 by Dan and Ben, who felt that existing crypto accounting tools neither followed UK tax rules properly nor protected users' financial data.
Connect supported exchanges, wallets and blockchains, or import transactions by CSV, and Recap builds a full picture of your holdings in pounds, with near real-time sync. From there it calculates your Capital Gains Tax and income position under HMRC rules: the same-day rule, the 30-day bed and breakfast rule and Section 104 pooling, applied in statutory order. Each disposal on the report includes a match breakdown, so you can see which rule applied and why. Transfers between your own accounts are matched automatically using transaction hashes.
Your data is encrypted on your device using AES-256 before it leaves your screen. The decryption keys stay with you, which means Recap has no way to read your information. The same engine also covers UK stocks and shares Capital Gains Tax, and there is a free UK CGT calculator on the Recap website.
You can connect accounts and see your full calculated tax position before paying anything. Plans start at £119 per year and include capital gains and income reports, all historic and current tax years, unlimited integrations and accountant sharing, with a 30-day money back guarantee.
Recap is a member of HMRC's Cryptoasset Industry Roundtable and of CryptoUK, was independently reviewed by Andersen LLP in March 2025, is certified to Cyber Essentials Plus, and won Best Tax Technology Product at the Tolley's Taxation Awards 2026. Support is UK-based and human.
