To achieve this, the methodology involves recursively sending getaddr messages to discover every reachable node, beginning with a predefined set of seed nodes. Since Bitnodes operates on Bitcoin protocol version 70001, any nodes that utilize an earlier version will not be included in the findings. The Python-based crawler's implementation can be found on GitHub (ayeowch/bitnodes), and detailed instructions for deploying the crawler are provided in the documentation titled Provisioning Bitcoin Network Crawler.
