Nowl serves as a semantic access layer that enables existing enterprise software and databases to be queried using business-friendly terms for AI applications. Rather than granting unrestricted SQL access to an AI, Nowl effectively translates business inquiries into validated, read-only query plans while also providing a clear explanation of how each answer was derived, ensuring that results are understandable and not merely opaque. Additionally, a privacy layer is implemented to filter data prior to transmission to a language model, enhancing security. Nowl operates in a self-hosted environment (with the exception of the language model), offers the option for EU data residency, and does not alter any existing systems. It interfaces with assistants like Claude through MCP, making it versatile for various applications.
