Submission + - Subcontractor tries to force Fukushima workers to hide their radiation exposure (

fredprado writes: Apparently at least one subcontractor hired to clean up the fukushima site has been urging their workers to put their radiation detectors lined under lead shieldings.

A diagram can be seen here.

The authorities decided not to prosecute him, even after one employee presenting them recordings of him trying to talk the said employee into it.

Submission + - Cpy - Write Python code in C syntax (

An anonymous reader writes: Cpy is a general purposed dynamic c-like syntax scripting language, it provides you a way to write Python code in C syntax!

It uses the Python programming language's type model and runtime, but with a very clean and clear and elegant syntax. Since it is built on the Python runtime, all Python's built-in modules and Python sources can be easily reused with an import.

Submission + - Astronomers Find Supermassive Black Hole Gobbling (

pigrabbitbear writes: "It’s no surprise that black holes are basically celestial Cookie Monsters, gobbling anything and everything in sight. But because that appetite includes light itself, it’s incredibly rare for us to actually see a black hole suck back an interstellar treat. Astronomers using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope have found just that: a mysterious, giant gas cloud that’s rapidly been pulled into the maw of a supermassive black hole.

The researchers, led by Reinhard Genzel of the Max-Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics in Germany, discovered the cloud as part of a now 20-year ESO program tasked with tracking stars as they whirl around the supermassive black hole, known as Sgr A*, at the center of our galaxy."

Submission + - Facebook passwords not case sensitive 2

gmerideth writes: "A client just pointed out the following, which I've confirmed. Given a facebook password of "myPassword1234", you can log into facebook using the following password "MYpASSWORD1234" — as long as every character is the opposite from the original, facebook will still allow you to login.

"MYpassword1234" wont work but reversing each case to the example above of "MYpASSWORD1234" does work. I created a temp password on facebook of "1qaZ2wsX3edC" (having ZXC in caps) and was able to log into facebook with the password "1QAz2WSx3EDc" (with zxc in lowercase) reversing the case of each character.

I'm not sure how one would make this work other than through direct functionality versus a database query or a php method that does this."

Submission + - Capcom announces unreplayable game ( 3

Hatta writes: Resident Evil: Mercenaries 3D for the Nintendo 3DS will be an experience that can be completed once per customer. Using a single, unwipable save slot Capcom ensures that a second hand customer gets a second rate experience. If you buy this game used, you will be stuck with the previous owner's progress, unable to start the game fresh.
