Journal Journal: Farewell

I decided to leave this site for numerous reasons, most include its degradation... I am not even sure today's stories reach Jon Katz's which already were lame.
The fact is that everybody now consider Slashdot as an acquired entertainment site... A "Reference" even though we should rather look at its evolution...

  • Subscriptions in order to "sell" the fr1st ps0ts,
  • Clueless mods who vote against what they don't approve rather rather than what is pertinent
  • Friends/Foes system which validity I challenge by marking my freaks as friends

Could be a long list but I do not have all day.
I don't like the way the mod system works and I don't like the editor's bias.
I also realised I mostly came here for the trolls which used to make me laugh...
Now it's just a bunch of anonymous cowards who copy-paste apocryphal shit or just bark at one another...
I would like to thank all of the people who I met here, they can follow me on either my blog (in French) or on my business web site (in FR + EN, soon to be translated in IT and DE).
I can always be reached by email and I'll gladly answer all.

Journal Journal: Geeks & God 13

I was just wondering how many of the Slashdotters were actually Believers, how many were Agnostics, Atheists... For example, Larry Wall is a Christian while Amnon Barak is Jewish. Well, I just wanted to get an unbiaised idea of your relation to ${DEITY}.

Journal Journal: I need help 9

I just wrote a Flashpplet and I would like to know if it works properly on most browsers:
Please, check the following link and report how it goes and what platform/browser you've been using to view it.

Thanks in advance for your help :)

The Matrix

Journal Journal: Real Matrix Author hit the jackpot

It took 6 years until Sophia Stewart, author of The Matrix finally got to receive her due from the copyright infringement of her original work. Stewart's allegations, involving copyright infringement and racketeering, were received and acknowledged by the Central District of California. She's about to get the biggest payoff of the whole cinema history: two and a half billions ! Read more about it here.

Journal Journal: Buying non DRMed songs from Apple's iTMS

Jon Johansen has published a small programs which allows the acquisition of DRM-free file from Apple's iTunes Music Store. He explains that his program works by bypassing iTunes which adds the DRM itself at the end of the transfer. His program, pymusique, is Windows-only compliant but it'd be easy to port it to other platforms.

Journal Journal: Reason 3.0 released

Propellerheads just announced the release of Reason 3.0, their famous all-in-one virtual rack. New features include a mastering suite and a combination device. Impressive.

Journal Journal: Interesting C#2.0 shifting bug

I have been advised to consult the following bug report which was submitted to the MSDN. A very fundamental bug occurs when you compile Console.WriteLine( ((int)-1) >> 1);. You'd expect a logical right shift to occur and the value -1 (0xFFFFFFFF) to be returned but you receive 2147483647 (0x1FFFFFFF) instead. Note that the bug has since been fixed and should not appear in the next MSDN release of Visual Studio. This information could be quite valuable to many developers, even though this bug does not occur in Mono !

Journal Journal: 2 kinds of Anonymous Cowards

  1. The ones that don't have mod points and answer you anonymously
  2. The ones that got mod points and "-1 Underrated" you
