Submission + - Ask Slashdot: How best to improve Slashdot? 2

Taco Cowboy writes: I've been on Slashdot for years and I have to say that I learned a lot from my visit to Slashdot.

However, that does not mean Slashdot can't been improved.

One recurring problem that I see on Slashdot is the noise level overpowering the real stuff, it's especially problematic in the reader comments.

There are readers who like to post cutesy comments, and that begats others to reply in kind. And when this happen, they've essentially occupied a large section of the comment queue, resulting in serious and insightful replies from other readers being pushed far far below.

Before I go on, I need to clarify that while it's nothing wrong in posting cutesy comments per se, too much of cutesy jokes would hamper serious discussions being carried out in the Slashdot community.

So I am asking the Slashdot community — How best to solve this and improve Slashdot?

Thank you for reading!
