Submission + - Male Researchers Reveal the Real Reason Why Men Love Breasts ( 2

An anonymous reader writes: Two male researchers have attempted to answer the age-old question: why are men obsessed with women's breasts?
The authors say that one of the reasons why heterosexual men are so fascinated by women's breasts is because of a simple hormone released during breastfeeding that helps form the powerful bond between mother and baby. This hormone is also responsible for creating the evolutionary drive for strong nurturing bonds between lovers, according to the authors.
Dr. Young, who is one of the world's leading social neuroscientists, wrote that "biologically speaking" the human male's obsession with breasts is "pretty weird".

Submission + - Record labels attack PC Mag, ignores RIAA, MPAA

An anonymous reader writes: "How's this for supreme irony?" — asks p2pnet. The RIAA and MPAA recently published chapter-and-verse outlines of exactly where to find alleged 'piracy' purveyors not only online, but also off" going on "Shortly after the Big 4 record labels, Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music used the US court system to shut down Limewire, PC Magazine posted an article suggesting six alternative P2P services and torrent trackers, saying 'all of these services should be used for legal downloads, of course'. According to Billboard, totally ignoring the detailed RIAA and MPAA contributions, a coterie of Big Music acolytes claimed, "The harm done to the creative community when people are encouraged to steal our music is immeasurable. Disclaimer or no, when you offer a list of alternative P2P sites to LimeWire — and include more of the serial offenders — PC Magazine is slyly encouraging people to steal more music ... "

Stoobalou writes: Vandals have attacked the houses of German home-owners who opted out of Google's Street View service, which began rolling out across the country this month.

Homes in the Bergerhausen area of Essen, western Germany were pelted with eggs, according to local media reports. Some houses had messages reading 'Google's cool' pinned to their doors.

All of the homes attacked were among the 250,000 German households who scrambled to opt out of Google Street View by having images of their homes removed from the service.

Submission + - Apple Lawyers Ban Steve Jobs Craven iDoll (

Stoobalou writes: Apple's dogs of law have been set upon cheeky Chinese upstart MIC Gadget after it started flogging Steve Jobs dolls.

Apple lawyers fired off the legal missive just days after MIC announced a second batch of the 'Phenomenal SJ Figure' which features a beautifully-crafted and highly detailed Steve Jobs complete with the obligatory black turtleneck, Levis and New Balance trainers. He's also clutching a miniature iPhone 4 though the sculptor has been careful not to give Mini Jobs the infamous death grip.

Apple wrote to the outfit saying "Unauthorized use of a person’s name and/or likeness constitutes a violation of California Civil Code Section 3344, which prohibits the use of any person’s name, photograph or likeness in a product without that person’s prior consent."

Japanese Company Turns Diapers Into Energy Source Screenshot-sm 65

greenrainbow writes "A Japanese company called Super Faith has developed a new machine that turns used adult diapers into a clean fuel source in about 24 hours. You simply place the bag of dirty diapers in the machine, and once set it motion it pulverizes, sanitizes and dries the material in the diapers and then forms it into small pellets that contain 5000 kcal of heat per kilogram and are meant to be used in biomass heating and electricity systems. Super Faith has reportedly installed two SFD systems at a hospital in Tokyo's Machida area. Each is capable of turning 700 pounds of used diapers — and everything they hold — into fuel every day."

Microsoft .Net Libraries Not Acting "Open Source" 246

figleaf writes "Three years ago, with much fanfare, Microsoft announced it would make some of the .Net libraries open source using the Microsoft Reference License. Since then Microsoft has reneged on its promise. The reference code site is dead, the blog hasn't been updated in a year and a half, and no one from Microsoft responds to questions on the forum."

Man Swallows USB Flash Drive Evidence Screenshot-sm 199

SlideRuleGuy writes "In a bold and bizarre attempt to destroy evidence seized during a federal raid, a New York City man grabbed a flash drive and swallowed the data storage device while in the custody of Secret Service agents. Records show Florin Necula ingested the Kingston flash drive shortly after his January 21 arrest outside a bank in Queens. A Kingston executive said it was unclear if stomach acid could damage one of their drives. 'As you might imagine, we have no actual experience with someone swallowing a USB.' I imagine that would be rather painful. But did he follow his mother's advice and chew thoroughly, first? Apparently not, as the drive was surgically recovered."

Robotic Ferret Used To Fight Smugglers Screenshot-sm 54

Scientists at the University of Sheffield have created a device dubbed the "cargo-screening ferret" that is able to detect drugs, weapons, and even illegal immigrants concealed in cargo containers. The 30cm-long robot is equipped with tiny sensors that are more sensitive than any currently employed in conventional cargo scanners. The ferret will attach itself magnetically to the inside of a cargo container and sweep it for contraband, while sending a steady stream of information back to its controller. Project leader Dr Tony Dodd said, "It's essential we develop something which is simple to operate and which border agents can have total confidence in. The ferret will be able to drop small probes down through the cargo and so pinpoint exactly where contraband is concealed."

Submission + - cracked ( 2

Merk writes: On Friday there was an article about someone starting a campaign to block Firefox users. Their justification was that Firefox users were more likely to block ads, and that by blocking ads, they were thieves, stealing from website developers.

Well, sometime over the weekend the site was altered, presumably by someone cracking in. The text on the page now gives a Firefox fan's reasoning why someone might want to ban the browser. (Image of page, first seen on Digg)

Submission + - The Woz + Kathy Griffin = Hitched (

gr8gatzby writes: "Well we can probably guess their kids names: Clarus for the boy and Lisa for the girl. It appears that Kathy Griffin has a thing for geeks, as her last hubby(infamous for laundering money from her) was as well.

From The Best Week Ever: "...things are looking up for Kath. She's found a new man. A successful man. Sadly, it's not her absolutely adorable assistant Tom (what chemistry those kids have!), rather... a much bigger, richer man. Co-founder of Apple Computers Steve Wozniak to be exact. The two met after Steve saw Kathy perform. Now, we know Steve might not be the handsomest man around, but fans of Kathy know that looks really aren't that important to her. And looks aside... could you really ask for a better catch than the co-founder of Apple F**king Computers? Wethinks not. And, as a side note, from what we've seen on her reality show, Kathy is an Apple girl through and through... which is adorable!" et-kathy-griffin-finds-a-new-man/"
