Submission + - Linux being virus safe

aflag writes: Often I hear people saying that the great thing about linux security is having one root account and an user account. I don't see how that would improve security on a desktop computer at all. If you worry about worms that will use your computer for sending spam that can be done using only your user. However, if you're worried about a virus deleting your stuff, then, unless you have an user that holds your data and another that you use to do other things (something that I'm sure very few people do), then you're not safe at all.

What's very good about most linux distributions is the concept of a trusty repository. If it's there, then it's safe. That way it's very hard for one to catch a virus. That's what MS and Apple should do to protect their customers.
