Ecuador took a long time to assess the request, but finally announced that asylum had been granted on August 14th.
WikiLeaks founder has been holed up in the country’s London embassy since June 19.
The asylum guarantees him safe passage from the UK to Ecuador, says Professor Donald Rothwell from the Australian National University College of Law.

I feel slashdot is losing it's place in the market and is going downhill.
If someone like Soulskill would allow this post what do you think?

I have a typewriter, but what are you going to miss?
I suppose for those nostalgic people, there are things you do not miss, like a monitor and keyboard, with a typewriter you have them all rolled into one. The question is; Is this a sad day for writers?"

As a/. user I am highly dismayed that people need to use Social Networking sites. It is far easier to meet real people and not FAKE people who subscribe to this crap to get publicity and gain online friends. Is it just me being old school or do other people feel the same way?

What is it about slashdot that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy from my heart? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elixir_of_life So we have some highly intelligent people here and that inspires me. Some people are dreadfully whitty beyond belief which really floats my boat and makes me smile.
If it were not for slashdot, I think I would have gone bonkers a long time ago. Here I can comprehend other people and realise I am not alone with my views or have to wear "caked" on make up like a CNN news reader. Don't me started with Fox news either!
Honestly slashdot does have good health properties and allows me to communicate things that matter. I would have joined freshmeat years ago if it were not for Military duty. nonetheless slashdot although not perfect is pretty close and successful to achieving an absolute.
My cat just meowed after asking her what she thought to this post. So you now have a feline vote and one from me.
The question I am asking is what do you love about slashdot?"
