Submission + - Spongebob or Spongebrain? (aappublications.org)

Lexx Greatrex writes: A study of 60 children recently published in Pediatrics, the official journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics, finds that four-year-olds who watched SpongeBob performed worse on executive function (EF) tests carried out within nine minutes of viewing than kids watching the PBS show Caillou. Without elaboration of any scientific or statistical significance of its findings or rationale for selecting the specific shows in question, the study simply draws the conclusion that "Children watch a great deal of television, and it has been associated with long-term attention problems. However, there is little research on the immediate impact of television on EF".
