Submission + - Car control systems shown to be vulnerable (bbc.co.uk)

Stooshie writes: It appears that researchers have managed to monitor packets sent by car control systems and insert fake packets and managed to do things like stop the engine, stop the brakes from working and make the displays give false readings. It is scary how much they can control but they did need physical access to the veichle.

"As cars, and everything else in life up to and including even pacemakers or fridges, become steadily more connected and externally accessible, research such as this should be taken increasingly seriously by manufacturers ... ... This represents an opportunity to head off a problem before it starts, in the not-too-distant future it may represent a real risk to life.", said Rik Fergson, a security analyst at Trend Micro

Submission + - Facebook trying to stop user deletion? (seppukoo.com)

Stooshie writes: Facebook has sent a cease and desist to seppukoo.com a site that offers a virtual suicide service to facebook users. Another has been sent to suicidemachine.org that offers a similar service.

"Curiously, Facebook lawyers appeal to the user right to privacy to annihilate our facebook unsubscribe service."

"The Seppukoo.com staff rejects every false pretence about phishing or malitious use of personal datas"
