Submission + - Microsoft Office on FreeBSD? SoftMaker is close...

martin-k writes: "Like it or not, Microsoft Office is still the dominant office suite — of course, it's available only for Windows. FreeBSD and Linux users need to look elsewhere. SoftMaker, the suite's maker promises better filters for Word and Excel, but TextMaker also offers OpenDocument (ODF) import."

Submission + - Beta of new office suite for Linux and FreeBSD

martin-k writes: "Just when you thought everybody was settling on OpenOffice.org as their office suite under Linux, a new office suite makes its debut: SoftMaker Office 2006 for Linux and FreeBSD is now in public beta testing and claims superior compatibility with Microsoft Word and Excel. OpenDocument import filters are provided as well, as SoftMaker, the suite's maker, is a member of the OpenDocument Format Alliance."
