Anti-Gamer South Australian Attorney General Quits 104

dogbolter writes "South Australian Attorney General, Michael Atkinson, infamous for the banning of R18+ rated games and the censoring of political comment in Australia, has quit. The recent South Australian election provided a massive swing against Atkinson's governing labor party. As a direct result of the South Australian election result, he is standing down. Hopefully someone with half a clue will assume the vacant post and overturn the decision to ban adult oriented computer games."

In your childhood your brains trains on how to interpret 2d images that come in from your eyes in 3d references. If you were blind from birth, your brain skipped that phase and later on (when blindness suddenly dissappears for whatsoever reason) won't be able to interpret the 2d images provided by your eyes. With colors however it is merely an extension of your already known palette... perhaps you might interpret the new colors in a way that's different from other people, but you will be able to recognise them. (perhaps it will become a 24 hour acid trip ... )

Comment Wasn't a comedy... (Score 1) 410

I guess the first book of the 5 part trilogy was meant as a comedy, however the complete 'trilogy' wasn't meant as one in my opinion. Though there are plenty of funny bits in the books, the complete work wasn't really funny (although I do think it was quite good..) , especially with all the characters being dead in the end, earth destroyed etc etc Douglas' style was somewhat like that of Terry Pratchett. Even serious topics can be told using a humorous/sarcastic undertone...

70% of the people who used it are considering it. Since, only 22.5% (Somewhere between 20-25% in the graph) of the people actually used it, a mere 15.75% of the people interviewed have used it and are positive. So those '70%' are actually 788 people out of the 5000 people interviewed.... Not really something you can base a forecast on..... In their vista-review, 70% have used vista and of these people, and about 20% are (moderately) positive .... this means 14% used vista and were 'happy' , which is 700 out of the 5000 people. 700 comes awfully near the 788 .... Based on this research I predict that Windows 7 will be just a big a failure as vista is. There are Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics.

How Famous OS Logos Got Started 103

Shane O'Neill writes "Ronald McDonald and the NBC Peacock may get more TV air time, but today's operating systems have cool logos, too. Google, Apple, Microsoft and the Linux crowd crafted mascots ranging from cute lizards to circles of life. In this slideshow, we look at the origins of the logos and look ahead to their future."

My first google hit regarding background on default :

-------------
c.1225, "failure, failure to act," from O.Fr. defaute, from M.L. defalta "a deficiency or failure," from L. dis- "away" + fallere "to be wanting." The financial sense is first recorded 1858; the computing sense is from 1966.

How I see it, all the word 'default' means is the state an object is in if you don't mess with it. e.g. the default position of a football is on the centre of the playing field, until one of the players kicks it. They didn't need computer science for that.
