Journal Journal: Interesting Slashdot Usernames: Slash on the Dot 4

I haven't written in a while, so I thought I'd do a cool one today. This journal entry is all about users who made it difficult to view their user page. Clicking on a regular link of their name will take you to Slashdot's 404 page. The reason is that each name has a forward slash in it, which makes it into a non-existent URL. I believe Slashdot must have changed its username filter because all of the names have fairly low UIDs.

I found too many of these to list in one journal, so I'll just throw out some that I think are interesting. Here they are in UID order (with links that will actually work):

Did I miss any that you think are cool? Post it and spread the love.

Journal Journal: Interesting Slashdot UIDs: Powers of Two 4

At the time of this writing, the first 20 powers of two are represented in Slashdot UIDs. Let's take a look at them. Here they are in numerical order:

Interesting notes:

  • Three users are missing!
  • The famous CowboyNeal gets the symmetric 2^2 UID.
  • Nine of them have posted comments, but only three (CmdrTaco, Hemos, Tom Rothamel) have posted within the last year.
  • Emmett Plant is also emmett (131645), a former Slashdot story author.

Journal Journal: Interesting Slashdot Usernames: The Digits

My last journal entry explored usernames for each single alphabet letter. Now let's take a look at the single digits. First, in numerical order:

And in UID order:

Interesting notes:

  • No users named "4" or "7" (as of this writing).
  • It took longer to get just these 8 digits used up than it did for all 26 letters of the alphabet.
  • Even the first one-digit username came quite late to party, relative to the alphabet. By the time 6 showed up, 22 one-letter users had been created.
  • 1's UID ends in a 1.
  • 3's UID is a multiple of 3.
  • 0's UID does not contain a 0, and 5's UID does not contain a 5. Each of the others UID does contain their digit.
  • 6 is the only one that has posted a comment in the past year (actually 5 days ago, as of this writing), even though it was the first created.
