Submission + - Would-be Hash hares now face felonies - WTF?

zooblethorpe writes: According to an article over at Yahoo! News, a brother and sister in their 30s have been charged with first-degree breach of peace felony charges for laying down the traditional flour marks for a Hash run in New Haven, CT. Apparently folks at an Ikea freaked out when they saw someone laying down a white powder in the parking lot, and then the city authorities had a cow, despite the fellow biking back and telling the cops what the deal was. Choice quote:

"You see powder connected by arrows and chalk, you never know," she said. "It could be a terrorist, it could be something more serious. We're thankful it wasn't, but there were a lot of resources that went into figuring that out."
Excuse me, but WTF? I didn't think the Hash ("the drinking club with a running problem") was really all that obscure — I've seen it everywhere from podunk rural Indiana to suburban Tokyo. And now the New Haven city government says they're going to try to get restitution from the pair. Wasn't there something similar when the whole Aqua Teen Hunger Force brouhaha exploded, about trying to limit public officials from going after other people when what's really at issue is their own stupidity?

necro81 writes: The NY Times is reporting this morning that embattled U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned. Gonzales has increasingly been under attack by Congress for fishy business in the firing of several federal prosecutors and his involvement in the warrantless wiretapping program. According to the Times' source, Gonzales called the President to resign on Friday.

Among the organizations affected by this apparently widespread outage was Google itself, which hosts its official company blogs on Blogspot. Blogger publishers have posted a rising volume of complaints on the official Blogger discussion forum since Monday, reporting problems editing, publishing and accessing blogs. However, things apparently took a turn for the worst on Wednesday morning U.S. Eastern Time, when Blogger and Blogspot apparently went totally offline. Checks on Blogger.com and a variety of Blogspot-hosted blogs by IDG News Service staff in different parts of the U.S. and Europe returned server error messages, confirming reports from users in the Blogger discussion forum."

Submission + - Bigelow Aerospace Deploys Genesis 2 Space Module 1

ThePopeLayton writes: Space.com is reporting that Bigelow Aerospace has successfully launched its Genesis 2 Space Module. This is significant as Bigelow Aerospace is one of a few private groups currently developing space technologies. The module was launched in a compact form and upon achieving a stable orbit will be inflated using compressed air. Bigelow's website is reporting "the second experimental pathfinder spacecraft has been successfully launched and inserted into orbit." The module has a variety of things on board: Scorpions, Hissing Cockroaches, Ant colonies, and even a Bingo Game.

Submission + - 850,000 RegisterFly Domains Moved to GoDaddy

miller60 writes: "The long-suffering customers of RegisterFly should soon be able to manage their names again after ICANN arranged for the transfer of its 850,000 domains to GoDaddy.com. ICANN terminated RegisterFly's accreditation back in March but it took a court order to pry the domains loose so they could be transferred to another registrar. For those just joining the story, RegisterFly is a New Jersey domain registrar that collapsed amid management chaos in February (see earlier Slashdot discussion here and here), leaving most customers unable to manage, renew or transfer their domains. ICANN, which was widely criticized for its inability to do more for RegisterFly customers, expressed relief at the saga's apparent conclusion. "The RegisterFly situation has been extremely difficult, first and foremost for registrants, as well as for the entire registry and registrar community," said Dr Paul Twomey, ICANN's President and CEO."
