When I was 30, I decided that the cause of the problem was less important than the solution. The pointless nonsense that I was subjected to may have made me dislike that environment but it was up to me to further my education. So, I did.

Busywork is a significant part of any job almost regardless of payscale. Meetings are busywork, charting is busywork. Strategy sessions are busywork. Recording results is busywork. Reading and signing documents is busywork.

If your meetings are busywork, then you shouldn't have them. Charting, strategy sessions, recording and reporting are not busywork. They allow an organization to be sure that resources are being spent in a most constructive manner.

In fact given your rant above, you come off sounding like someone who has to be constantly stimulated in your job. Which to your supervisor sounds a lot like we have to be constantly working to keep you entertained. No offense but I'll just hire the next guy who can handle being bored from time to time without blaming me for destroying his "love of work"

What yes men like you don't seem to understand is that when we're unhappy with employment, we can leave.

It has happened to me a few times. I've left over not getting a promotion or raise that I thought I deserved. (Admittedly, I'm not unbiased in this regard) I have left over unreasonably autocratic management.

I was in the gifted program and I nearly didn't graduate with my friends. Not because I couldn't learn the material or keep up, I did that and more. I quickly became bored with pointless busy work and ended up getting into trouble. I was admitted to a state school and after a terrible freshman year, I was kicked out of academic suspension.

It took until I was 30 years old for me to recover from the damage done to my love of learning as a child. Fortunately, I was able to return to college and get my B.S. and M.S. degrees in short order but I could have easily been a statistic.

So, from someone who has experience, I say fuck Allison Benedikt. Fuck her right in her stupid ass.

Tyson is a brilliant theoretical physicist and he should probably continue studying theoretical physics rather than pontificating on whether a billionaire who owns and designs products for multiple successful companies understands the risks and rewards of space exploration. When Neil deGrasse Tyson launches his own successful businesses and starts designing rocket ships that successfully deliver supplies to the international space station, he'll be slightly more qualified to hold an opinion on the subject.

Elon Musk is an educated, trained physicist. He's started multiple successful businesses. He's designed and built electric cars that actually work for real people and that are built like tanks. He's designed and built rockets and capsules that carry out successful missions in space at a fraction of the cost of NASA and everyone else. He's doing what virtually nobody else is doing: taking risks. He's the next Steve Jobs and he doesn't want to make your music player pretty; he wants to go to Mars.

If I were a betting man, I most certainly wouldn't be betting against Elon Musk. That's a stupid bet.

"You absolutely need express verbal consent, or it's rape."

I'm going to have to disagree here.

This frames sex as something that men do to women or something that women give to men as opposed to an activity between two consenting equals.

Does he have to give verbal permission for her to not have raped him?

You cannot, in one breath, argue that the sexes are equal but in another argue that the level of responsibility in sexuality is unequal.

Moreover, it doesn't address that rape is sex against someone's will, regardless of verbal statements. If the words are all that matter, putting a knife to someone's throat and making them say "yes, you have my permission to begin sex" would absolve someone of criminal liability.

Agreed. We should do more to educate young men about consent and why rape is never ok.

That doesn't change the reality of human nature. We've been teaching people that it's not acceptable to murder and mug each other for thousands of years but murders and muggings still happen.

Just like we all know that it's wrong to mug someone, we also don't advise people that they should walk around in high crime areas in the middle of the night with expensive jewelry on and waving stacks of cash around.

We can't stop every mugging, we can't stop every rape, people can practice good judgment and try to avoid becoming a target.

That's what I'm saying about sexual violence.

You can go through life with that "You're not the boss of me, I'll do whatever I feel like!" mentality or you can wise up and think.

Please understand, I'm in no way saying that the victims are ever at fault. I'm saying that you can decrease your chances of being victimized.
