Roku Finally Gets a 2D Menu System 80

DeviceGuru writes "Many of us have griped for years about Roku's retro one-dimensional user interface. Finally, in conjunction with the release of the new Roku 3 model, the Linux-based media streaming player is getting a two-dimensional facelift, making it quicker and easier to access favorite channels and find new ones. Current Roku users, who will now begin suffering from UI-envy, will be glad to learn that Roku plans to push out a firmware update next month to many earlier models, including the Roku LT, Roku HD (model 2500R), Roku 2 HD, Roku 2 XD, Roku 2 XS, and Roku Streaming Stick. A short demo of the new 2D Roku menu system is available in this YouTube video."

Google Releases Street View Images From Fukushima Ghost Town 63

mdsolar writes in with news that Goolge has released Street View pictures from inside the zone that was evacuated after the Fukushima disaster. "Google Inc. (GOOG) today released images taken by its Street View service from the town of Namie, Japan, inside the zone that was evacuated after the Fukushima nuclear disaster in March 2011. Google, operator of the world's biggest Web search engine, entered Namie this month at the invitation of the town's mayor, Tamotsu Baba, and produced the 360-degree imagery for the Google Maps and Google Earth services, it said in an e-mailed statement. All of Namie's 21,000 residents were forced to flee after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami crippled the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant, about 8 kilometers (5 miles) from the town, causing the world's worst nuclear accident after Chernobyl. Baba asked Mountain View, California-based Google to map the town to create a permanent record of its state two years after the evacuation, he said in a Google blog post."

You beat me to it, but as an atheist so long as you're not in my face, setting policy which affects me, or scaring my children, you can believe in a golden doorknob for all I care.

The evangelicals are highly offensive to anyone of a different religion, including atheists.

You seem to be well-balanced and tolerant. Many thanks for that.

You're glazing over a lot, and using cloning to try and get around some real limitations. When the host has to run antivirus ( you're losing resources than a non-Hyper-V solution. VMWare and RHEV are much better solutions for everyone except the hobbyist, with VMWare being the insanely expensive option.

Perhaps you missed the punks smirking on camera, or you missed the quote that they should've raped her because they were getting punished for it anyway. Or the regret that one had -- not for penetrating her digitally, or for trying to get her to give him oral sex when she was passed out -- but instead for filming it.

No regrets? Fine then, these kids deserve to be made into examples. For the betterment of our society.

And FWIW, here in Florida you can get put on a sex offenders list for public urination. The last time I checked with an offenders app, there were 75+ people in five miles -- including many within my community which requires a background check and approval to live here -- and I live in an upscale golf community. So no, while a pain, I don't think this is any big deal because they've watered down the definition enough that it seems lots of people have it. And obviously they are living their lives just fine.

Exactly. Our kids' futures are looking bleak if our society allows stuff like the rape to happen with little punishment, but goes balls deep on this guy who only got email addresses from a public API. No skill required.

But that girl will likely have to see these punks again and again and it's gonna be bad for her to deal with. They will be back, emboldened next time. And her friends that have seen this go down this way, they aren't going to bother reporting it next time.

I would trade all my good karma to substitute for them to have bad karma. Because we haven't punished them sufficiently, it lowers the threshold for future issues such as this.

On the other side, if you punish rape as severely as murder then they will just kill the girl afterward.

But this punishment? It's a travesty. One day it could be one of my daughters.

I'm sorry for your loss. And much appreciate your taking the time and effort to provide those helpful links.

The Thanksgiving through end of February period is rough for me also. Birthdays of estranged family, family holidays I now spend alone, etc. I hope you have a good relationship with others who can help you through it.
