Submission + - Feds Raid LibertyDollar.org

An anonymous reader writes: (Disclaimer: This reporter is affiliated in no other way than empathy with any of the named parties. Surely people should learn from this?)

US citizens' rights to property and free enterprise are under attack again. From TFA:

"For approximately six hours they took all the gold, all the silver, all the
platinum and almost two tons of Ron Paul Dollars that where just delivered last
Friday. They also took all the files, all the computers and froze our bank
accounts. ...all the gold and silver that backs up the paper
certificates and digital currency held in the vault at Sunshine Mint has also
been confiscated. Even the dies for mint the Gold and Silver Libertys have been
taken.

This in spite of the fact that Edmond C. Moy, the Director of the Mint,
acknowledged in a letter to a US Senator that the paper certificates did not
violate Section 486 and were not illegal. But the FBI and Services took all the
paper currency too."

Submission + - Ron Paul raises 2 million in 12 hours.

An anonymous reader writes: Ron Paul's supporters have been organizing an online fund raiser for November 5'th. Halfway through the day, the total funds raised are about 2 million dollars. To put this into perspective Giuliani, who is the presumed Republican front runner, only raised 11 million for the entire last quarter. Real time information (updated every minute) showing Ron Paul's current fund raising can be found at http://www.ronpaul2008.com./

Submission + - This November 5th Ron Paul Money Bomb

Ron Paul supporter writes: This November 5th (www.thisnovember5th.com) is a huge mass donation day organized by the grassroot people who support Dr. Ron Paul in the 2008 election. It is currently 12 noon, central time. We have already raised over $1 million. The contributing donations are still coming in strong! Pretty hard for "spammers" to organize this one, eh? Hopefully the media starts giving Dr. Ron Paul the deserved credit that he is owed!!!

Submission + - Biggest Online Grassroots Fundraiser in History

maxmerkel writes: "(better version of previous submission — please remove this) Today an online grassroots effort for presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul's tries to raise as much cash in 24h as possible — at the time of this writing already a huge $1,398,812 since midnight — this might already be the largest amount of money ever raised online in a single day for a presidential campaign.
You can watch the donation spree here or even jump in if you happen to support Dr. Pauls platform — the end of war, return to limited constitutional government, lower taxes and the protection of your civil liberties and the privacy of the internet.
A big success today will certainly give Dr. Paul the platform to change something in Washington. You can find a short clip introducing you to Dr. Paul on youtube.com.

apparently Dr. Paul also is a big hit at the MIT"

Submission + - The Ron Paul e-Bomb

rrt82 writes: Ron Paul has been the subject of an electronic revolution today, organized entirely online. The goal of the revolution was to set off the money "bomb" that showered the campaign with over $1,000,000 in just a few hours. The revolution got the November 5th date idea from Guy Fawkes. Is this the first revolution organized and carried out online? You know you live in the 21st century when you can take part in a revolution without leaving your oh so comfortable computer chair.

Submission + - Pirates of the Caribbean ripped off Monkey Island?

Winston Judt writes: Did Monkey Island inspire Pirates of the Caribbean — or, even better, did Pirates of the Caribbean plain rip-off Monkey Island? This article explores some amazing similarities and dissimilarities between the two as well, to see if it's more of a rip off or just two series which have drawn from the same source material.

Submission + - Wubi: new Ubuntu secret weapon?

An anonymous reader writes: There is a new Ubuntu installer out there that might bring about a small revolution in the Linux world. Think about an installer that allows you to install and uninstall Linux as any other application. An installer that does not require you to burn an ISO, that does not change your partitions, that does not change your bootloader, and still gives you a normal dual-boot setup, with full hardware access. Impossible? Enter Wubi. Wubi sits between a demo and a full installation, bringing you the best of both words. It works like a real installation but it is easy and safe to install and remove like a demo. Wubi was born as an independent (GPL) project, but it will become an official Ubuntu installer in Gutsy. Caveat: it is still in beta.

Submission + - Is this one way to help keep women in IT?

neaty350 writes: As someone who employs large teams of IT folk, I'm often frustrated when good female team members leave for family pressures (kids) and other similar reasons. A mob in Australia (http://www.justbe.com.au) have come up with a good idea and launched a site in the past few days that not only focuses on jobs for women, but also has a bunch of stuff in there about career support, tips and advice for women. As a guy, this stuff didn't really register for me, but female co-workers think its a good idea. Is this a sign of things to come — career diversity sites?

Submission + - How to make a Custom Windows Install w/ nLite

spyderman4g63 writes: "http://teamtutorials.com/windows-tutorials/how-to- make-a-custom-windows-install-w-nlite

Most people have things that they remove from a fresh Windows install every time that they install. Such as services, tools, programs, and others. There are many ways to get settings removed before installing so that you do not have to modify it after every install. One of the ways would be to make a custom install for Windows."

Submission + - Diabetics cured by stem-cell treatment

gbridge writes: The Times is reporting that diabetics have been able to stop taking insulin injections after being given drugs to suppress their immune systems, and having transfusions of stem cells drawn from their own blood. The trial on fifteen patients resulted in all but two volunteers not needing insulin injections some time after treatment; eleven immediately following the infusion of stem cells, two 12 and 20 months after the procedure. One patient went 12 months without shots, but relapsed a year after treatment after suffering a viral infection, and another volunteer was eliminated from the study because of complications. Encouraging results but more trials are clearly required, with London perhaps conducting research into the therapy within the next 12 months if funding can be found.
