Replying twice to the same post, but something struck me:

but his point is that for an industry that's always trying to attract women

You are confused, you think that a bunch of geeks who are socially inept who would like to have more women in the office to hit on and learn how to hit on, want women in the field.

They don't want women in the field, they want women in the office, that they can talk to and socialize with, as they utterly fail to do so on their own.

They'd be just as happy with doctors, secretaries, or prison inmates if they were women and would talk to them.

And when will *you* realize that the war is over. Congratulations, you won! Women in America and most western countries have 100% legal rights! They're going to college in more numbers than men, they're doing great in the workplace, and sexual harassment is the quickest way to end your career. Pretty much everything that's left is not a gender issue - it's a class issue, or a human rights issue in general. You've been so successful that modern women are free and reasonable to think that continuing to fight is ridiculous.

Either pick some new issues or start working on changing cultures in other parts of the world, where women still *are* oppressed, instead of browbeating the women you worked to give rights to when they freely exercise those rights without seeming properly grateful.

*note: This is a rant directed at the modern feminist movement in general, not necessarily at you personally. Also, I am completely 100% in favor of equal rights for women. I see no real evidence that we have failed to attain this in any reasonable way. I will agree 100% that there are still inequalities in society that could be improved, but I see as many of them at this point in time on the masculine side as on the feminine side (date rape vs prison rape, spousal abuse goes both way, gender roles are still assumed for all, abortion vs child support and custody), and approaching these problems as feminist or masculinist just obscures any meaningful solution.

Honestly I don't know if that would survive a constitutional challenge.

IMO, states trying to interfere with the electoral college system, ESPECIALLY in a presidential election, may be seen as usurping federal authority.

Anyone with relevant SCOTUS cases, please post references.

The problem doesn't come in until they stop showing other people's options. Just showing theirs first isn't abuse, it's smart business.

Google has long since passed the "do no evil" hat to other companies, in my book, but so far they're at least trying to stay in the "do less evil" realm as far as I can tell. They're too big now to do no evil, but they haven't turned completely evil yet. Some day, I suspect, they will, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt while we still can.

much will depend on how much Clackmannanshire is willing to pay. The Coca Cola company has paid through the nose to give their beverages the highes ranking (the spell checker will recommend as a cheaper option over 'water') . If Clackmannanshire wants to have its name spelled correctly it'll cost them. Until then the spell checker will propose "somewhere near Edinburgh".

I wonder how IBM arrived at the result of $2000

Because that's how much it would cost to have an Indian replace their job if they cant adapt.

$2000 for the replacement Indian for a year. $200,000 in fixing the damage after the company finds the Indian was totally unskilled and has also stolen the company client database.

PDF is a format designed to preserve the original page size and layout, while its certainly commonly (read: usually) used with no regards to those, it really really sucks at doing so. html based options like epub are much much better at having the content universally fitted and sized to the device in question. Also, PDF sucks for conversion to other formats as well.

I've been using a DS homebrew app called DSLibris for a while now, The DS is naturally shaped like a book when held sideways, and it certainly beats paying a lot of money for a dedicated device vs something I already have and use frequently. The top right corner page turning touch controls are also pretty nifty. It does currently lack a few features, like the ability to download/sync with books stored on my PC automatically, although it could easily be done given the DS' wifi functionality. And I'm not paying 250$ just to automate something that can be done fairly easily manually to begin with.
