Comment Governments have limited power over economics (Score 1) 15

It will be interesting to see at what point the regulations and taxes imposed by countries like Holland make it no longer worth doing business in their geographies. People have other ways of getting Apple products and there is no reason the servers have to be in the country. It would be interesting to see who would blink first if Apple shut all their stores and told the government to pound sand.

Comment It's not investment (Score 1) 157

Calling government taxing and spending "investment" is political gaslighting. The government is taking money from current and future taxpayers by force and using it for whatever will buy the current politicians the most votes. Much of that money will be wasted by government bureaucracy. It's nearly the opposite of an actual investment.

Comment Pull out and serve from elsewhere (Score 1) 217

Facebook can simply pull out of Europe and serve Europeans from offshore data centers. Unless the EU wants to create a new Great Firewall, easily circumvented with a cheap VPN, there's nothing they can do. I'm no fan of Facebook, but I am a fan of giving authoritarians the finger.
