Black is the accepted term for people who are black-skinned.
Brown is not the accepted term, it's an adjective. Kind of like the word white when talking about Caucasians. Accepted terms for brown-skinned people include South Asian, Middle Eastern, and Latinx.
They didn't create something that could measure depression. They tested an extremely invasive procedure that can monitor electrical signals in the brain that can be correlated to depressive symptoms. I'm not clear how this is any more useful than an MRI. It's certainly a lot more dangerous.
It's not really a platform that only hosts dance videos. It is also a platform that people use to disseminate political views.
I'm curious why a bunch of neoliberals and consertatives aren't letting the free market handle this. Isn't that what the free market is supposed to be good for?
The funny thing with this one is they can choose not to trade your car in. I don't know what you would call a fascist government that gives everyone a choice in the matter.
So they aren't suitable for road trips. If you don't make a lot of road trips then it's not a problem. If you do, don't get an EV, or rent a gas vehicle for the trip.
I don't have a car any longer, and I rent whenever I expect to be on the road for half a day or more. It ends up being cheaper than a gas car because rentals tend to be well very serviced so they are extremely fuel efficient.
It's not video games. It's not mental health. It's not the lack of gun laws (although that doesn't help).
The United States culture romanticizes violence, gun culture, and antiestablishment/lone-hero type personalities. If you want to stop gun violence, stop being America.
A well-regulated marketplace is always going to be better than an overregulated marketplace, but simply removing a bunch of regulations in order to deal with the problem of an overregulated marketplace is a stupid solution.
Maybe 6 years ago. Nowadays, the standard slashdot reply seems to have something about trump or biden irregardless of how relevant they are to the subject. Because everything is an excuse to complain about American partisan politics.
Developmentally appropriate. What a way to phrase it. There are so many snowflake parents that are offended by the idea of any sex ed. If you went by their definition of developmentally appropriate then it would never happen.
As it stands, too many parents are afraid of discussions that go beyond threats of disownment. In a perfect world, schools wouldn't need to provide sex ed, but that's not the case.
It also occurs in the barter system. And communism. Buying and selling goods happen in all systems.
Capitalism happens when people use capital to generate more capital.
How often have you eaten at a restaurant that had pictures of the most expensive items on the menu in a holder on the table? I guess that probably depends on what kind of restaurant you regularly go to, and where you live, but for me, it's fairly common.
Seeing as it actually solves a real-life problem, this is more than simple "innovation just for the sake of it".
Incindiary comments made by conservatives being blocked on social media is not the same as a baker refusing to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple. That's a red herring that everyone seems to be throwing around, and the analogy is all wrong.
This is more akin to a baker refusing to bake a cake that is shaped like a penis. Should a baker be forced to bake a cake that is shaped like a penis? No. Should it matter that the people who want it baked are gay? No. But if a person keeps on asking the baker to bake cakes shaped like penises, then the baker should have every right to further deny service to them.
Likewise, social media sites aren't banning people because they are conservative. They are banning them for saying things that go against the values that those social media site claims to adhere to.
