Submission + - Nokia leaks phone with full GNU/Linux distribution 2

An anonymous reader writes: It is now clear why Nokia has been so slow with S60 updates: the upcoming N900 just left everything else in the dust. Unlike Google's Linux platform, Nokia is not intentionally breaking compatibility with real distros, choosing instead to bring you the unmatchable power of GNU/Linux on your phone. This is the most awesome device I have ever seen.

OMAP3 CPU/GPU, 3,5" 800x480 touchscreen, keyboard, wifi, hspa, gps
5 MP camera, CZ lens, 32GB storage, SD slot
X11 window server, VT100 terminal emulator, APT package manager
Price without credit: est. 550e/$780 (N.5800: 280e/$390, iPhone 3GS: 530e/$750)

Developers should note that even though the current desktop is still GTK+, Qt will be standard across all Nokia platforms in the near future (less powerful phones will use Qt on the Symbian kernel). Users can download flashing software from Nokia, and patches can be submitted at the Maemo site.

Hmmm.... Let's see where your logic leads. Apple has a 100% share of the market for Apple computers. Wow. That's so incisive. Read below to see where your logic takes you.

Dell has a 100% share of the Dell computer market. Ergo, Dell is now a monopoly. AMD has a 100% share of the AMD cpu market. Ergo, AMD is now a monopoly.

Your logic is so flawed, so "strawmanish", that it's not funny. Every company now qualifies as a monopoly because they hold a 100% share of their own sales, and no one else can manufacture and sell their brand.

someone mod this man up!

I am norwegian, and i know how the system work. The unemployment numbers lie. If you count everyone in the "system" of being unemployed, in some re-education class that the state pays for, or some other training / motivational course... etc will count as "employed" as you recieve benifits based on this. In reality i'd guesstimate that there is around 8% unemployment in norway, counting people who fake injury to drug users. Also, the inflation rate in norway is a constant worry.
15-20 years ago i seem to recall that a US dollar was around 10-12 Norwegian Kroners or NOK.
last few years ... 1us$ = 5-7.5 NOK.
So where does all these earnings go you ask? you dont seem -that- rich. Well, we are. But we cant spend it because of inflation.
We spend allot on foreign aid and devoloping countires because of this. Rest pretty much goes to to the state pension fund, which is around 350 us$ billions. We are a country of 4.5ish million people with no debt.

I had top secret aswell ( worked/served at NATO base), i just signed, didnt swear, didnt do anything, i discovered that allot of the sensitive data was available on google tho ( googled specs and bases when i was bored, from time to time). I am not american tho, but i had top secret in the US military system ( among most other NATO military systems). I remember the difference between nice to know and need to know got explained a few times tho, but that was the germans.

As i understand, europe has different laws regarding patents not all countries in europe do even agree on how patents should be handled. An example is that a patent cannot be a obvious solution or evolution that everyone knew was going to be one day. Like, you cant patent the idea of wireless internet on airplanes, as its going to be a natural evolution of technology. Just like multitouch.
