So in reality you haven't even bothered to look into the service you are deriding?

Good to know. We love uninformed statements of fact around here... :-/

Let me give you some actual information to use in the future so you actually have a clue what you are talking about:

As stated below - the terms work out to the same or less than you'd pay direct from the manufacturer.

I paid $99 down for my One. Once my payments are complete, I will have paid $579 for the device...exactly what I would have paid for it outright.

The monthly bill is $50 (unlimited talk/text/data). The $20 payment is one you can drop at any time simply by paying it off. There is no lock-in on your contract as to the amount of time you must hold it. Once you've paid the cost of the device, you are done. You are not bound by any contract to any length of service.

Please make yourself a note to try and avoid making comments on things you know absolutely nothing about in the future. K? Thanks.

Most operators know to make sure the device is completely inactive before going anywhere near it. Making it land directly in front of you where you have effectively *zero* ability to take cover should it not stop is a pretty damned expensive game of Russian roulette.

Out of curiosity, which city? I've heard the random tale of these checkpoints, but it's almost always due to a manhunt or some similar issue. I've never heard of it being a monthly occurrence, or "just for shits and giggles"...Who the heck is running that state and why do they still have a job??

Sorry that happened to you, man, but it's (still) thankfully a rarity. I've been travelling for business by car for decades and have yet to run into one of those.

Quickly is subjective. You can get from Minneapolis to Green Bay faster by driving than flying in most cases. Same goes for Chicago if you follow guidelines (arrival times and such).

I can get anywhere in the country legally from where I am in under 24 hours.

Quickly is hardly how I would describe flight travel anywhere unless you own/operate your own (in which case, you can get around by your definition of "quickly" pretty easily. ...but even giving "quickly" any weight at all is disingenuous. Speed is a convenience. The point is that you are free to roam the country all you like.

It's called driving. :)

Guess what?

Microsoft didn't release Office for Android.

They released Office Mobile for Office 365.

What you imply is that they released an office suite for Android, when in fact, they merely released an Android client for Office 365 users.

As much as you might care to think one is pretty much the same as the other, you would be wrong. This app is not for editing office documents on your mobile device. It is for Office 365 users to view items synced to their cloud....nothing more. It cannot even access items on your mobile device...

"a bad situation"

We're not talking about getting mugged or raped, here.

We're talking about "getting drunk at a party at the age of 14 and then not having the skills, support, or tools to cope with the consequences".

Big difference. For the former, parenting has virtually no affect (regarding the victim), whereas the latter can be all but eliminated by effective parenting.

No-one but you here ever said anything about "absolute control".

No; Really. Let's hear it.

Hey, you said it...

My first post argued parenting could have prevented this. You disagreed by arguing that this child may have had excellent parents. I believe the story itself refutes this. Excellent parents can teach their children to make healthy, responsible decisions; and how to cope with situations that have escalated far beyond their own personal control. Sure, they'll still make mistakes; but not of this magnitude and not with these results.
