I can see why the iPhone gained and maintains the market share it does. Disregarding the whole 'closed garden' thing which is only relevant to us /.ers, it was genuinely the first decent touchscreen phone and continues to match its rivals in anything Joe Public cares about. iPad generally the same deal. The iPod? Fuck knows. Probably the same reason adidas, Nike and A&F do so well. It just took off for whatever reason, and now in the eyes of most, anything else is like buying store's own brand food (that's a story for another day!)

I believe there's also a throughput bonus from societal pressures - you're less likely to take time bagging, fiddling with your wallet, etcetera when you notice ten people standing behind you. This is being adopted more and more in the UK through self-service stations in supermarkets.

I don't really like the fact SM Allstars is on this disc instead of the originals. It's kinda like playing Doom1 on the Crysis engine... takes away the magic in some way.

Reminds me of the original Xbox. Why make it impossible to stack things on top? (say, a dvd case, cellphone, etc) Also looks fairly tall, too tall to fit in where a set-top box would.

How about timedemos for FPS games? Benchmarking your card? Tools used for overclocking to actually stress the card? These GPU's are designed to operate at max temp. Many games operate with no FPS cap unless vsync is enabled. This is a complete non-issue.

I've always wondered why modern OS's don't use RAM more, if they do then it sure doesn't feel like it. Sitting with 6GB at the moment, 1.2GB used, I could essentially have a RAM disk with the entire XP or Ubuntu install just sat there ready to run...

You couldn't get a 360/PS3 down to a real laptop's size even if you wanted to, you know that's an unfair comparison. Sure a PC is more expensive by a few hundred dollars, but then it does much more as well, such as running anything you throw at it, usable as a fileserver, unlimited upgrade potential, and so on.

The games will most probably have all of the great tricks fixed that made Prime such an amazing game. Dash jumping, triple bomb jump, rapid fire missiles, and so on. It was great to take the game engine to its limits without technically cheating. Not only that, Prime1/2 had an amazing control scheme, 3 just used the wii remote as a gimmick IMO.
