Journal Journal: Verbiage: Options for new toner. 2

My Printer, an HP LaserJet P1006 is low on toner. Pages are coming up partially blank, or at least close to it, and the driver issued the warning. The replacement cartridge is CB435A.

Replace toner with a chip, is just under $20, a knock-off cartridge is slightly more. The few comments i have read say the knockoffs are never perfect.

Getting ready to make a recommendation to her and surprised she hasn't called me yet. This one looks nice, the low weight and full sized keyboard are great, but the shorter screen may be an issue. Maybe the higher resolution isn't for her. I have no idea.

The walmart one is sold out online, but froogle found it elsewhere for nearly the same price (after shipping). The problem is, she can't check it out beforehand.

It could be the weight isn't that big of an issue. Maybe she'll rarely move it, like only when she travels, and keep it plugged in. If that's the case, maybe a standard Dell, like the Inspiron 15 would be better. It weighs nearly 6 pounds though, but is a full sized laptop for about the same price.

Never happened to me. A firewall is good enough.

how do you get thousands upon thousands of ISVs to agree which category their program belongs under?

They don;t choose, Microsoft would choose. It shouldn't be that hard to make the rules. ebay does it quite well.

Also, per-app volume control just rocks.

Not bad. I believe Windows has had that since the beginning though, but the app had to use that feature,

BTW, i appreciate your time here. I don't agree with you, but your probably affecting me more than i know. :)

Yeah, she says it's too confusing. My original comment to her was that it'd be perfect.

and has to be replaced with another new mobile Internet device.

The key word here is familiar. For a lady i'm guessing is in her i'm seventies, familiar has a lot of value. She also mentioned the repeat rate, but i'm sure that a setting somewhere. Also, i'm a bit afraid someone will just walk off with the iPad because it's less bulky and it's the new hot item on the market. Although laptops are stolen because of their portabilioty as well, i'm guessing it's a bit less likely.

Call #3 of the bunch came an. An elderly lady has a laptop that stopped working, she wanted to connect to the Internet. Her son told her to get an iPad, so she did, but is finding it confusing. She wants to know what to do. I told her to return the iPad.

I'm somewhat the same. At the office, i rearrange. At home, i hardly ever. I still like it better. I don't like when things move around. A better solutions would have been for MS to have programs use sub-menus, possibly through some arranged program.

As for the screen going dark, i don't care if its needed to draw attention. It draws *too much* attention.

I do hear what you are saying. I don't think i'm ready to give in yet. The more i give in, the less i care. The less i care, the worse i do my job.
