Comment Re:MMS is pretty pointless after all (Score 1) 153

I've been noticing similar effects with VZWATT for years. Glad to know its not just me. Also, sending from ATT, VZW friends usually get my texts, but sometimes successive texts in a row get delayed or not delivered until a new outgoing text is sent.
Email from the phone is more reliable.

You would not have been able to say the same about Gore or Kerry.

You don't know that at all. Maybe you weren't around when a democrat sent us into a war of independence in Vietnam. Also based on what turned out to be false information. And another thing, Gore had Lieberman on his ticket. A man every bit as bad as Cheney. And look at your patriot act there. Lieberman's name is all over it. When it comes to the middle east, Lieberman is just as hawkish as Israel's Lieberman (look him up). I am willing to bet he would have shown some real "shock and awe" if he had his chance. And Kerry? Please! After promising not to send our boys to die in a "senseless war", he would find a way to do just that, just like Johnson.

Submission + - CRIA forces Demonoid offline 1

duh P3rf3ss3r writes: Popular bittorrent site Demonoid.com, still smarting from a recent agreement with the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) to block all traffic from Canadians, appears to have been forced entirely offline. Attempts to contact the main or the secondary server result in the message: "The CRIA threatened the company renting the servers to us, and because of this it is not possible to keep the site online. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your understanding." Is this the end for the demonoid folks?

Submission + - Girl sues sports team over electronic scoreboard

mcgrew (sm62704) writes: "The St Louis Post Dispatch is reporting that a teenager is suing the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team over a message that appeared on the electronic scoreboard that read "[plantiff] has an STD! Eww"

The suit accuses the Cardinals of negligence in allowing a defamatory statement to be published. The girl is seeking damages "in excess of $25,000," plus legal fees.

The Cardinals introduced the scoreboard service when the new stadium opened last year. For $2.99, fans can send a text message from their phone to digital boards along the first- and third-base lines, as well as a display in right-center field.

Vulgar comments are supposed to be caught before they are displayed, but that has not always been the case.
No "safe harbor" for scoreboards!"

Submission + - BD+ copy protection on Blu-ray hacked (cdfreaks.com)

NoBluray writes: Slysoft has released a beta version of AnyDVD HD, their software that allows you to make backup of HD-DVD and Blu-ray (the High Definition (HD) formats) discs. The company already won a few battles in their war against the protection of these formats. Now it seems to have won the last one and defeated the Blu-ray BD+ protection.

The BD+ protection is a smallvirtual machine that is embedded in Blu-ray players and can help protecting the device. For example it checks if someone has e.g been trying to hack it. Then code on Blu-ray discs can be released in the BD+ format which can patch hacked devices.

Submission + - Hard drive prices drop from PC, flash drive demand (computerworld.com)

Lucas123 writes: "The average price of notebook hard drives tumbled to $53 in the third quarter of 2007, from $86 in the same period during the previous year, according to a survey by a market research firm. The price drop can be accredited to competition among six vendors, enormous demand for PCs and consumer electronics as well as evolving flash memory drives. "Lower-capacity notebook drives showed smaller price drops, while newer high-capacity drives saw massive price drops.""
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - Your game console = your personality? (yahoo.com)

paaiyan writes: A post from Yahoo! tech blogger Gina Hughes tells us guys that your game system can apparently tell the opposite side of the species a bit about your inner self. Four guys, including Carl Arinoldo, a NY-based psychologist gave a few things they thought your game console might tell about you.

Shane Satterfield, editor-in-chief, GameTrailers.com says this about the Wii man: "This guy is not the typical slack-jawed, bleary-eyed gamer who wants to sit on the couch staring blankly at the screen for hours on end." Harsh no? He also had this to say about the 360: "These guys are passionate about gaming and that transfers into the bedroom as well."

See what your system says about you. But PC gamers, sorry guys, they left us out.

Submission + - Major League Baseball wipes out DRM licenses 1

cuban321 writes:
Major League Baseball has switched DRM providers, forcing customers who bought videos from their old system to buy them again if they want to continue watching them. From one of its victims, sportswriter Allan Wood: "MLB no longer supports the DDS system that it once used and so any CDs with downloaded games on them 'are no good. They will not work with the current system.' ...I was told there is absolutely nothing MLB can do about these lost games. Plus, they said my purchases were all 'one-time sale' and thus 'there are no refunds.'"
