Bears (brown moreso than black) will hunt you for food but their range is pretty limited now. Moose, bison, and even elk can be quite dangerous if startled or at the wrong time of the year, but we've killed most of them too.

I'm 25, and I have two decent sized bookshelves worth of dead tree books. It's probably about 1/3 textbooks and technical stuff (including old binders full of papers) and then whatever other novels and nonfiction I've accumulated. The textbooks usually can't be found in a library and a fair portion of the balance is $1 and $2 stuff I've picked up at used book stores or yard sales. I prefer print copies to PDFs. I can scribble in the margins or take it outside with me. I also don't get distracted as much by the wonder of the internet if it's not on a computer.
