I got the impression from reading TFA that 1) he does not think his patent was "junk", 2) he does not agree with the reasoning behind the invalidation of his patent, and 3) he does not think software should be unpatentable, only that the patent system needs to be reformed. I'm not sure where your interpretation of events fits in to all of this.

In the absence of the old plan ($10/month for unlimited streaming + 1DVD), I wouldn't say the new one is "pretty darn cheap"; more like "acceptable". And that being the case, they are encouraging long-time (formerly) satisfied customers to investigate their alternatives (eg, redbox). They must be supremely confident in their superior selection if they think people won't switch from $8/month to $1/movie.

I guess I am strange. The main reason I buy CFLs almost exclusively is so that I can stick a 21W CFL into a space designed for a 60W incandescent. I like having a lot of light. And in the 7-10 years I have been doing this, I think I had one bulb go bad (I get whatever cheap brand it is they sell at Costco), which I then disposed of at a place that handles electronics recycling. Usually they charge a recycling fee, but I guess they didn't see the point when all I had was a single CFL.

The main google page isn't the problem. It's still very simple. It's after I get the results that's a pain. l have to deal with crap like their interface stealing my arrow key inputs. And then if I want to edit my search terms (instead of starting a new search), I have to deal with instant search constantly pulling up nonsense and slowing things down every time I make a type (and then again when I fix the typo). I'm a bit slow (ie, stupid), so my brain can't handle looking at the results as I'm typing (I can't even type without making typos, after all), so it really serves no purpose to me. I know I can turn all this crap off, but those settings aren't tied to my Google account, so I need to set them every time I start up my browser (I like to clear the cookies on exit). I used to like google's search and layout, but now I'm wondering if there's something that doesn't suck as much.

I'd never pay for a 3G connection for a tablet, so I'm never going to pay a premium for a 3G enabled tablet. I also don't ever see myself tethering a tablet to my phone; I'd be more likely to just use the phone itself. I can't see myself ever using a tablet where I didn't have a wifi connection. Of course, when it comes to tablets, I am definitely not in the "early adopter" demographic.

There is no "right to fly", but we have a right to voice our concerns about the way security is handled. Whether it's to complain that the security isn't enough, that it amounts to sexual abuse, or that it's completely ineffective, this speech is protected, right? So why are you trying to shut people up when they just want to improve the system?
