Comment Re:$0.99 apps aren't serious (Score 1) 223

I kind of agree.
We have an application for microsoft pcs that is completely free.
It's for opticians and yet it isn't being used that much really.
It's not a light weight app either. 3 user over a netwok and it does really cool stuff. (only cool if you are an optician)

I think it is suffering because it is free as in beer.
If you want to have a look (If you are not an optician, then I wouldn't reccomend it)it is at www.optilett.co.uk

Comment Symantec tried to steel my customers! (Score 1) 268

All this discussion anout whether symantecs products are any good is a bit null and void.
When we used to sell their products our customers would be sent letters telling them to contact symantec to renew. (These were enterprise customers) Therefore cutting us out of the picture even though we had done all the work in getting these customers using Symantec.
Since then we have never sold any of their products.
(We didnt lose the customers because they passed the letters onto us without opening them)

The exact same thing happened to a friend that used to sell their products to.

That is the main reason we dont sell their products anymore!

Submission + - Free or Free? That is the question (optilett.co.uk)

ferrgle writes: "We have a free as in beer piece of software.
It is called Optilett X.
It is based on Microsoft Access and is a Database for Opticians.
It will stay free as in beer, but should we make the source available as well?

The problems with doing this are;
We have a newer version coming out soon that we want to sell.
It is based on Microsoft Access???
The programmer isnt keen on his code being viewed.

Does anybody think that it would be usefull to open this project up?"

Submission + - What Apple to buy (reghardware.co.uk)

ferrgle writes: "The Reg Hardware have got a good article from an independent Mac specialist about what's hot and what's not in Apple's current line-up.
Despite there only being five types of Mac in the range, each is offered in a number of variations, and Warren's lined them up so you can decide which model meets your needs.

It's a good article to read if you are thinking of getting advice on what Mac to get.
Of course you could just go to a computer shop and ask them, but you will probably end up buying a PC with Vista on!"
