Hire an System Administrator experienced with Citrix.
Hire an Network Administrator experienced with Cisco
Hire someone for first line Servicedesk
Hire someone for second line servicedesk

That will be your normal every day in house staff.

For the initial setup hire an company with experience in Citrix and with them build the new network. Make sure your own Sys and network admin work closely with the company so that knew exactly how everything works. Also make sure EVERYTHING is documented.

The difference in memory use is also too small for me to worry about.

Now don't get me wrong I do think any application should be programmed to use as little resources as possible.

But seeing that the pc with the least amount of ram I use on a regular basis has 8gb of it. So the difference isn't enough to make me switch either.

Websites not working well under non IE browsers has always been a problem especially at the beginning when Firefox was just released. Things are getting better now though. Personally I have none that I use on a regular basis that don't work in Chrome. For the very rare occasion that it doesn't work I can always start IE.

Comment No reason to switch. (Score 1) 435

I have switched browsers a number of times.

I switched from IE to Firefox which was a major change. Firefox was faster and supported things like plugins well.

For a long time all was well and I stuck to Firefox and found many plugins I would say I can't live without. So when Chrome entered the market I tried it and I had to admit it was damn fast faster then IE and Firefox but at the time it lacked support for plugins.

When Chrome finally added proper plugin support and Adblock was released for it I decided to give it another go. Chrome was still a whole lot faster then Firefox both in page loading but especially in starting/opening tabs/closing etc was so much faster.

Now Firefox 4 was released and I gave it another try but there is no big difference between it and Chrome. Its not really faster or slower then Chrome it has no real features that Chrome doesn't have.

Why should I move to Firefox?

Comment Rent a server. (Score 1) 368

Depending on the amount of content you want to back-up you could do like me. Rent a dedicated server.

Overkill you think? I'm a photographer and photoshop enthusiast and so is my daughter. Everyone in our family plays at least one musical instrument we have a family band so we back-up those recordings as well. There are currently about 21.000 images on that server last time I checked a few gig of musical related audio and video content.

But the main reason for opting for a dedicated server is privacy I don't trust Facebook or any similar service with my data.

If you have ever run or been part of a large project of any kind you know one thing you can count on:

Things NEVER go as planned. It's how you overcome those problems that makes or breaks your product.

Regrettable as this unplanned leak of of their game is you can't just stop and whine about like a little girl you come up with a solution!

For example and this is just one of the top of my head..

Issue a modding and/or mapping contest for the game! Release the editor by it self legally and people will use the leaked beta for testing come up with some cool prices and then on the release day you announce the winners.

This will show you can overcome something like this which will raise peoples opinion about your product and company. Give you a bunch of more PR and hell you even have some extra free content for the people that buy the game!

Comment Self service checkout (Score 1) 464

One of our local supermarket stores has recently started using a self service checkout system.

It's absolutely brilliant:

As you enter the store you get one of the many hand scanners by simply scanning your store bonus card. Then as you get all your products you scan each one as you go. At the end you simply place your scanner back in one of the holders and scan your bonus card again and you're ready to pay and after that you're done. Even with the xmas crowd there where no lines for the self service checkout.

Yet still quite a lot of people choose to stand in line... actually one of my friends was in line as I arrived at the store and I finished shopping before it was his turn at the cashier =)

Comment move it or lose it (Score 2, Interesting) 775

Well, it is bad but it doesn't come a shock to me. But we have to look at the bigger picture here because this isn't a law you impose just because you feel like it. The media corporations have money and lots of it and I'm sure they invest quite a bit in networking, making sure current administrations work for you. What these companies don't (want to) realise is that the world is engulfed in an digital (and others but that is a different story) revolution. Companies that don't keep up with current trends usually don't last long and we will arrive at a point that their money will run out and then it will die out, slowly and painfully. They have to move with the changes and what the perfect answer is.. I don't know. But now that they still have money and power they have to make their move and they have to do it quickly. Personally I have absolutely no intention at all to ever pay for a record company again they are an insult to artists around the world.

They often move music/mixing equipment in special cases those can take a beating. This will require some relatively simple modding to be done such as add openings for fans and such. You might still need two people to carry it but should fit into a truck easily or what not. Not to mention that you can just put a lock on it as well to avoid unauthorized access to the hardware.
