I sure it was just a team of system administrators and PC technicians who help the local governments recover from a ransomware attack.

I have lived in rural communities, getting IT resources to handle a malware recovery could be problematic and expensive. Borrowing resources from the National Guard doesn't sound out of line.

I am in an online PhD program from a small university in Kentucky.

The majority of students in all of my classes are not native english speakers. The school has 3000 on-campus undergrads and 22000 grad students (most of them online).

My online complaint to my wife about the program has been the requirement for weekly discussion board posts because I have such a hard time reading my fellow students posts. I can tell they are smart. But because of the stilted formal academic style they are all trying to adopt, their writing becomes almost unreadable.

I expect the school will lose over 75% of their grad students

I did my BS and my MBA at a University that was online only (WGU) I never felt that their online systems hindered my learning experience. I enjoyed the process.

Last fall I started my PhD at a school that offers an online program to supplement their on-campus school. The school uses Blackboard to run their online school. I have grown to hate Blackboard with a passion. I find it un-intuitive and mess to deal with. I feel it hinders my learning experience.

I am the type of person who always thought he would buy a Rolex before he bought an Apple Watch.

Last year my Dad was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (A-Fib). This is apparently the root cause of all the small strokes he has had over the past 10 years, causing his dementia.

Based on his family medical history, there is a genetic component, because his decline mirrors the decline of his mother and grandmother.

I asked my Doctor about what kinds of symptoms I might expect as early warning signs of A-Fib. She didn't have a lot of answers, fatigue, tired, while helpful are too common for something so dangerous

Then I read that the Apple Watch 4's and 5's had a basic EKG function built into them, that is capable of detecting A-Fib. It isn't capable of detecting a heart attack, but it can detect this problem that is killing my Dad.

I bought one for myself within the month. I do an A-fib check once a month, so far no signs, but, if I get it, hopefully I will be able to get treatment before I start having strokes like my Dad did.

I haven't seen a Rolex or Tag Hauer capable of doing the same thing for me.

This isn't the fuel that was removed from the reactor

This is the reprocessing waste after removing the bomb making materials from the reactor fuel.

Normal reactor pellets are not reprocessed, specifically because the radioactive waste is en-trained in the metallic structure of the pellet. Which is already designed to handle some of the gaseous decay compounds.

Reprocessing would allow us to reuse Uranium from the pellets, but our current techniques result in a larger volume of waste that needs to be handled than if we leave the pellets alone.

I was the in-house IT person for a CNC machine shop that made aerospace parts.
We had some amazingly skilled CNC people who made amazing parts.

They even taught me to run a machine occasionally when they were short handed. I also was one of the better Solidworks people, and I would make solid models of parts from prints, so we could use the model in our CAM software to write programs.

One thing I found, I was very good at figuring out how in integrate new technology, like a live 4th axis on mill, to make more complicated parts with fewer setup steps. The high school only people, would want to keep making every part exactly like they always had. Set up a vise, cut one side, flip the part into another vise, cut another face.

I would teach them how I was looking at the part, and they would learn and adapt it to other parts. They learned that complicated parts, in a 4 axis setup, were almost impossible to program by hand. They had to learn the CAM software better.

This company had 50 employees in an area that only has 18% college graduates. Most of their employees started there after high school and worked their way up. Even the company president started after high school as a material handler, worked his way into machining and eventually into management. There are no college graduates to hire, so they will keep training high school kids.

Laminated glass for side and rear windows has become way more common. If the NHTSA cares, they are too late.

According to AAA, 1 in 3 cars, from all manufacturers has laminated glass windows all around, which window punches won't break.

Manufacturers have done this for 2 reasons

Laminated glass is quieter. Cheaper and lighter than adding a bunch of sound dampening foam everywhere

Other reason is because the windows are more resistant to breaking, they do a better job of keeping occupants in the vehicle during rollover accidents

Increased security of the vehicle from break ins is just bonus to them.
