What? I thought it was Castle Wolfenstein 3D that ushered in the (continuing) era of FPS. Although I never played it, just seeing it gave me confidence to develop real-time 3D scientific visualization just using the 386.

Even though Wikipedia lists mobile notifications as an application of push notifications https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Push_technology#Push_notification, I reject the application of the term. Push technology came about as a mirror to normal web browsing, reversing the intended direction. Thus IMO, "Push" implies some sort of subversion of the protocol, and should not be applied to a mere direction. Phones receiving notifications is an intended part of the protocol; the phone is receiving what it signed up for. There is no "push", no force, involved.

The job won't be done until we each are able to wear a nuclear reactor like a wristwatch and it provides a personal defensive force field.

There is a conceptual similarity between dataflow programming, as LabVIEW supports, and functional programming. While it's understandable that the developers may have been unfamiliar with functional programming in the 1980s, there is no good reason why LabVIEW hasn't adopted it yet. Instead, LabVIEW is stuck with clunky while loop frames with a stop sign node to wire up in the middle, broadcast events symbolized by satellite dishes that go who knows where due to no command line grep, and no easy way to maintain and pass around global state (like Scala implicits do).
