You have as much proof of that as me saying that it's too bad the republicans sent in their red flag ops to distract from the real problem: institutional racism and badly trained police officers.

"The moment the looting and burning started I tuned out everything.

As far as the republicans are concerned: mission accomplished.

Comment Coronaviruses != herpesviruses (Score 3, Informative) 218

Chickenpoxviruses are herpesviruses with over a hundred of genes, the majority of which is dedicated to life-long immune evasion with many redundancies. These have indeed evolved over hundreds of millions of years--co-evolved with immune systems would be a better description. SARS-CoV-2 literally didn't exist on this planet less than half a year ago. Also, coronaviruses in general have ten times less the genetic payload and are therefore far less likely to persist to linger that long. I'd say 40 days is an outlier.

Except that 10% of its genome, 6 genes, (FTFA) "had distant homologs in public databases: an exonuclease/recombinase, a packaging-ATPase, a bifunctional DNA primase/polymerase and three hypothetical proteins"

To make things even less sensationalist: viruses like these are discovered all the time, just about everywhere.

The new virus groups are all associated with bacteria found in the same sample. Bacterial viruses literally form the largest biomass in the world. Make a string of all viruses, and you'll have a chain that's somewhere a 100 and 200 million light years long. That's from here to the Andromeda galaxy and back, 40 times. The chances that a glacier sample with 28 unknow groups of viruses will contain one that will actually grow in humans in literally astronomically small. I'll eat a handful of ancient glacier ice over yellow snow any time.

Yeah, looks nice, but. Will we be able to have a decent conversation with an AI entity any time soon? The customer support bots that are currently used by web shops are total crap and you can't have an intelligent conversation with any home assistant by far either. These new looks will only be impressive until you have to interact with them and actually get things done.
