David Gerard writes: MQA, or Master Quality Authenticated, is a proprietary codec that claims to compress "hi-res" audio (24-bit 96kHz) down to the size of a CD-quality FLAC. All three major labels and the largest indies have signed up. The trouble is, nothing about it checks out as an improvement on Red Book audio.

The problem is that it requires a Republican Congress to vote in favor of something that lets corporations get away with being stingy. Trump might decide to support it because he doesn't like Silicon Valley, but I can't imagine a Republican Congress siding with the little guy when it comes to money.
