Warner CEO Admits His Kids Stole Music 533

IAmTheDave writes "Warner Music CEO Edgar Bronfman admitted that he was fairly certain that one or more of his children had downloaded music illegally, but despite this direct admission of guilt, no lawsuits are pending. Surprised? Bronfman insists that, after a stern talking-to, his children have suffered the full consequences of their actions. 'I explained to them what I believe is right, that the principle is that stealing music is stealing music. Frankly, right is right and wrong is wrong, particularly when a parent is talking to a child. A bright line around moral responsibility is very important. I can assure you they no longer do that.' I wonder if all of the people currently being sued/extorted can now just claim that they 'no longer do that.'"

Get on the 'Gates for President' Bandwagon 654

netbuzz writes "Dilbert's Scott Adams kicked off the idea in his November 19th blog post, saying there isn't anything wrong with this country that President Bill Gates couldn't cure in less time than it takes to get a new operating system out the door. Today, the idea is moving forward with a brand-new 'Bill Gates for President' Web site. Adams is also back on the campaign trail, flogging the site and Gates' candidacy." A blog post at Network World includes a lot of eye-rolling about this idea, but neither Adams nor the folks at the 'Gates for President' website seem to be taking this lightly.

Can the Web Survive v3.0 217

robotsrule writes "The battle lines between skeptic and evangelist are already drawn. Either way, Web 3.0 will either be the new face of the Web that launched a thousand empty business plans, or the tipping point into a vastly more exciting phase of the Web. This Web 3.0 article asserts that the marraige of artificial intelligence to the infrastructure of Web 3.0 will dramatically accelerate our capacity for distributed problem solving. However, it also issues dire warnings on the potential hyper-euphoria that will accompany it."

Testosterone Tumbling in American Males 597

An anonymous reader writes "Yahoo is running a story about a study that concludes that testosterone levels are falling across all age groups among American men. It says 'The testosterone-fueled American male may be losing his punch'" I leave it to you all to draw your conclusions about this, but I still wonder what my hours of laptop-fu does to me.

Comment Re:No charge.. (Score 1) 219

I've had two fun situations like this - the first one with O2 UK (a mobile phone company) doing just what the article says, except they didn't send the warning letter until a month AFTER i was cut off (with valid bank details on file). That one went to OfCom (the man).

The other was with CVV number (the three extra digits they have on the back of a visa). My last card had the CVV number of 000, and several systems (Endsleigh Insurance for one) refused to take my card as i had to enter a number for the CVV number.

It turns out MS will be doing a mobile platform with some gaming elements (Zune), maybe this is just to get handheld experience.

I use the foe thing as a filter and you're my foe as you are either

A) A bit of a right winger
B) A (poor) troll (the good ones are funny)
C) A nnoying

Anyway - don't take it personally, I just either don't want to hear your opinion (I read this site for the g33k hum0r, not the politics) or you are a racist/warmongering shitball (ditto).

It's much better. I could almost believe some people are hired by the editors to write controvertial gibberish.

Just an experiment to see how much I like slashdot without the people who post in every story and the pseudo-technical bullshitters. Don't take it personally, this isn't my main account.

Troll submissions.

This is pretty funny, in a why-yes-I-am-tweleve way. And it implies the editors DO pay at least a little bit of attention...

Does anyone know if this will affect Veritas's earlier commitment to use apt-get as the basis of their new enterprise Linux package/resource management system? Imagine the convenience of being able to roll out new desktop systems with a single 'apt-get install desktop' command? apt-get rocks!
