Comment Must not have been a good business... (Score 1) 288

"I really do not know if it is worth the effort at this point" - If the site creator isn't willing to respond to a few hundred emails, then the business probably wasn't worth much to them to begin with. Responding to the complaints "individually" doesn't mean having a full on conversation with each person complaining either. If you don't want to respond each person, then just switch to a different host: problem solved!

Submission + - NVIDIA Developer Zone Hacked

Memroid writes: During the same day that Yahoo announced that their servers were hacked, NVIDIA is now announcing to their Developer Zone members that they too may have been the target of an attack:

"July 12, 2012
Dear DevZone User,

NVIDIA suspended operations today of the NVIDIA Developer Zone website. We did this in response to attacks on the site by unauthorized third parties who may have gained access to hashed passwords.

We are investigating this matter and working around the clock to ensure that secure operations can be restored.

As a precautionary measure, we strongly recommend that you change any identical passwords that you may be using elsewhere.

NVIDIA does not request sensitive information by email. Do not provide personal, financial or sensitive information (including new passwords) in response to any email purporting to be sent by an NVIDIA employee or representative.

Check back on NVIDIA Developer Zone for updates."

In that case, perhaps all GPL licensing can be circumvented by only distributing the software via a virus. "Click Here to begin infecting your computer with the latest version!"

Does a virus spreading itself really count as "distribution" under the GPL? It could be argued that copying itself (sometimes to places it isn't wanted) is just the normal execution of this particular program (which the GPL always allows), not a proper "distribution".

Also note that culture can be influenced by many different directions. Hideo Kojima, whom some of you may know, appears to have felt a similar burden:
"If our children today don't have any dreams, we creators are guilty for not giving them dreams. We are culpable. We must create a dream to leave behind for the sake of our children."

Comment This does not leave room for freedom (Score 1) 114

Unless these laws only specify rights, and not restrictions, then creating laws will only create further restrictions on freedom.

Let freedom be access to all values in a set. Let a law define a subset of freedom. Laws do not define additional freedom, but rather restrict it. If laws are added continuously, without removing laws, you are left with the intersection of all of these laws, which will get narrower and narrower (smaller subset). Advocating the creation of laws should be frowned upon. We should advocate the removal of laws and addition of rights.

First off, Kennedy did not look 66 prior to death and Obama has said "My grandfather was gray by the time he was 29 [...] So I figured it was going to come. It just happened to coincide with the presidency." Perhaps you are the one who is "morally bankrupt and personally repugnant" for discriminating based on age and looks. I am in my twenties and care more about a candidate's political beliefs than appearance. I am not trying to elect a movie star and I hope that enough voters will side with me on that.
