Microsoft Kills the Kin 351

adeelarshad82 writes "The Microsoft Kin is dead, or at least it doesn't have a future as a standalone product. Microsoft released a statement suggesting that it's cutting bait on the Windows Phone 7 spinoff and folding the project's staff and technologies into the main body of Windows Phone 7. For now, it seems like Verizon Wireless will continue to sell Kin phones. But with the Kin team essentially disbanded, it's hard to see future updates and support for the line being a priority within Microsoft."

Submission + - Google Talk Cripples Android Market

An anonymous reader writes: It appears that problems with Google Talk have left Android users out in the cold when it comes to using the market place. Many users have reported the inability to sign in to Google Talk via their Android handsets leading to an inability to download apps from the Android Market. There are scores of posts at Google's support forums; most of which suggest issues relating to Google Apps accounts. Google have yet to have anyone comment on the issue or offer a resolution. Perhaps the least "evil" thing to do would be for Google to start by letting users know their complaints have been heard. It might go a long way toward alleviating the heart ache.

Actually, there is a drop down arrow that is always next to the "Next" button at the top, to the left of the address/breadcrumb bar. It drops down and shows you every part of the current path as a selectable option. This IS consistently placed and (for me at least) is much more usable than the address bar itself.

Submission + - PPCA to Tax Fitness in Australia

innocence18 writes: The Phonographic Performance Company of Australia are currently lobbying to increase the tariff that fitness centres in Australia pay for copyrighted materials used in fitness classes. They claim the increase reflects the true value of the music being used as well as the increasing prices gyms are charging for membership. The fitness industry (through Fitness Australia) currently pays around $1.5m(AU) which the new rate would see increased to $100m(AU). It is difficult to see how this increase would not be passed on to both gym clients(through membership fees) and fitness instructors(through music purchasing costs). Fitness Australia is actively opposing the increase and calling for support through their Tax on Fitness website.
