Submission + - "Two-factor" bank authentication foiled ag

CheckeredShirt writes: A couple of articles, one from Computer Weekly and one from SC Magazine, briefly discuss the recent compensation given by ABN Amro to four of it's customers that were the victim of a phishing attack. The real kicker is that the attack easily foiled the "two-factor" authentication that was mandated by the FFIEC but correctly predicted to be ineffectual. The good news is that ABN Amro is "taking this incident very seriously" and using it as an opportunity to remind users that online banking is safe "provided users take the right precautions."

Submission + - Logitech G5 Laser Gaming Mouse Rev2 -review

dampeal writes: "How can you possibly make one of the greatest gaming mice out there better? Add another button, that's how! I'm talking about the Logitech G5 Laser gaming Mouse, which is what is up on the review block for today. Adding an additional side button to the G5 is something that was very much needed and will be welcomed by all, including me. The G5 even got a cool face lift, with an interesting texture/paint job that Logitech calls 'Cracle Blue', they added some new features in the software control panel as well, and did a bit of a change up with the weight kit as well... So, click HERE to learn more about the new Logitech G5 gaming mouse..."

Submission + - New twist in Santangelo case

newtley writes: "US district judge Colleen McMahon, who's hearing the Big Music file sharing charges levelled at Patti Santangelo, says she can move for an order of dismissal with prejudice and, "The Court has the power to entertain such a motion, and to grant it on whatever terms and conditions the Court deems appropriate." The last thing the RIAA wants is for the case to be heard. If that happens, they'll have not only to defend their position, but prove it, and so far, they've managed to avoid that, instead using the media to judge close to 20,000 men, women and children, finding them guilty of the non-existent crime of file sharing without having to go anywhere near a court, a jury or a magistrate. Now Santangelo, who's on record as saying she wants her case to go to trial so she can clear her name and get on with her life, and her lawyer, Jordan Glass will have to think deeply about their next step."

Submission + - How to get around a crippled IP connection?

An anonymous reader writes: The definition of "Internet Connection" seem to be changing to "Internet, except port 80, blocked this, limited that, addresses translated this way..." My question is: What is the easiest way to get around these limitation to a real internet connection? I know it is possible to run IP over IP. (This is how they are doing staged upgrades from IPv4 to IPv6.) Has anyone run IP over IP or IP over SSH to get around limits of their ISP's connection? How did you do it and what was your experience?

Submission + - International Computer Donations?

Greg writes: "Good day all. Im working with a group that gives scholarships to rural students in Ecuador, INDESIC (www.indesic.org). We have a library that is open to all students and alumni of the program, however the computers desperately need to be updated. I have been searching for groups/companies/charities/educational foundations who might be interested in supporting our fairly modest need of 10 computers. So far no luck, and Im out of ideas. So I ask the Slashdot community, Does anyone know of any organizations who might be interested in donating 10 computers (or the money to buy them) to support some Ecuadorian students?"

Submission + - Thailand blocks YouTube for clip mocking king

Anonymous Coward writes: "Thailand's military-appointed government blocked access to video-sharing Web site YouTube on Wednesday after its owner, Google, declined to withdraw a video clip mocking the country's monarch.

Communications Minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom told Reuters he ordered a block of the entire site from Thailand after the ministry's attempts to block the offending page last week failed.

"Since Google has rejected our repeated requests to withdraw the clip, we can't help blocking the entire site in Thailand," said Sitthichai, a telecommunications professor who said he had spent most of his academic life researching eavesdropping devices.
