While I agree with your frustrations about PC gaming, I'm curious why you throw in mobile devices at the end there? I have a galaxy nexus and an iPad, both have some decent games on them, and they work great over hdmi. Admittedly, I only play games very occasionally though.

Even if Amazon doesn't get special tax deals, it will still hurt smaller online retailers more. Due to their large size, Amazon is better situated to handle the extra overhead and cost these taxes will bring. Amazon has essentially been handed a blank check by investors to get by with extremely low profit margins, as evidenced with their stock price. This could be just the extra bump Amazon needs to put their competition out of business.

In a perfect world, the UN wouldn't be in charge of handling domain name disputes. Ron Paul would probably say the same thing. But at this point, the world is not perfect, and he can only work with existing tools. Personally, I don't think he is being a hypocrite and I think it's very likely he could have a valid right to his own name, as a well known entity that he is.

I've been seriously considering getting a Chromebook as a second general purpose device for my wife. She's always on my home desktop doing facebook, gmail, pinterest, etc. I also have an iPad, and the number one thing I like about it is the high resolution. I use it mostly for reading, maybe a game now and then, and it's hard to go back to reading text on a regular computer screen after using it for a while. I think a higher res screen would be great.

The samsung one looks nice, but I'm kind of leaning towards the Acer model. From the reviews I've read it is faster, and you can easily swap in 4gb memory and a big ssd.

Yes, it's really not that hard. People who are complaining just need to do a little more research. I got my wife a used at&t iPhone and put a goPhone sim in it. works fine. I had my Droid 2 on page plus for quite a while, and that worked fine too. I eventually got rid of my Droid 2. Now I have a galaxy nexus with a verizon lte iPad sim card. I don't make that many calls so that works fine for me. I get 2gb for $30/month with the iPad's data plan. There are many reasonable options depending whether you want just voice or just data.
