Comment Egads...Gnome 1.4.6 all over again... (Score 1) 818

There are things you just "get used to" - actions, window actions, menu actions, whatever. For me, I've seen just the basic "ergonomics" broken again and again - along with the "artistic" bits and bobs - I've grown to use my linux machines a very particular way (via the GUI) and have my druthers to stick to certain visual perspectives along with "usability" perspectives. Gnome3/Unity truly killed that (what - every thing is now classed as a netbook or mobile device?) for me. KDE, since the break from 3.5, killed me there. XFce has always been there, but still, lacking in a way or so...Enlightenment has been awesome, but buggy, not complete. C'mon - I just want to DO, not to "keep trying". MS Windows lost out years ago with Win95 - coming from an OS/2 and *nix background. Now I'm on OSX - I *keep* trying to "live the dream" but it's too much effort. Things should have evolved to be "easy" and they're only evolving to what some corporate mind THINKS is ergonomic. Get real. Gnome2 was very useable and was very much of the "I just work" mentality...took me a while to love it, but I do, and hate to see it die (it at least gives me the perception that my desktop computer is a desktop computer with two monitors and all the power and applications at hand). I have things to do, and if the window manager doesn't allow me to do them, well, it's ditched and I'll just do it myself. I have to thank Ubuntu and Unity for my recent switch to OSX...done and not going back...

Comment Now Australia is open to DHS intrusions? (Score 3, Interesting) 127

Lovely that. So now the Department of Homeland Security - with this new bit of "permission" - can literally extradite anyone and everyone they wish - based on accusation - to be held for unknown amounts of time on US soil - with no hope of defense or fair trial? I came to Australia because I had hopes it would remain relatively free of "US imposed rule". I feel sorry for the Australians that don't have a clue as to what this means exactly. I feel sorry for those ruled over by the US government that don't have a clue as to what this means exactly. I feel remorse that I am still a US citizen, and that people will judge me by my government's actions; and I feel fear merely for the fact that I may no longer speak freely with the threat of the DHS looking for insurgents like myself. It's a pity that the US government has been allowed to descend to the horrible depths it's gone to - by the American People.

Why bother even running an MS product in the first place? Chewing up even more system resource to basically emulate a *nix machine - with your antivirus/anti-malware/anti-spyware/firewall crap running along with God-knows-what else buried in the background - even the smallest of footprints (VirtualWin) lags and chokes (regardless of how much RAM)... Regardless of how many strings of pearls you put on a pig, it's still a pig.

Sydney, Australia: petrol hovers from $1.43 to over $1.50 AUD (sometimes higher)...if my American education is correct, that means that I often pay $6.00 per gallon (figuring that 4 litres is roughly 1 Imperial Gallon). I honestly believe that Americans should "shut up" about their petrol costs - especially in the news - as it causes other folks in other countries a fair whack of ire and derision - and more often than not, it highlights the fact that the US government focuses far too much on gaining petrol resources in the Middle East and elsewhere - a facade of "Democracy" hiding resource greed and corporate favouritism.

Comment A religion of peace? (Score 1) 604

According to the 10 Commandments: "Thou shalt not kill" It's strange that society and religion can re-interpret this to their perspective instead of standing on the reality of the meaning. It also goes to show that, as a "monotheistic" religion, Islam puts Mohammed above all other humans - and even God; wherein lies the inherent problem. This is exactly how Islam creates enemies - of it's own volition - and creates fear throughout the non-muslim world. Very sad, very sad. I'm fairly certain that God would think of this (and all other religious executions) as being an insult to His Creation.

If you saw WHERE our IMAX is, and what parking is available - aside from the logistics of human traffic, amongst other things - you'd understand. "Plan the work, work the plan" - ergo, no hiccups, no unforeseen issues - and hey, we just got finished with our city's "Festival Season" - which has been full on since November...therefore, I think I'd rather laud the whole lot of 'em - and I look forward to getting inside and seeing what they've done!
