C++ was the best choice for a short while. Kinda like 8-track tapes before cassettes came out. I'd suggest that C++ is currently a poor choice for most uses today, basic agreement with Linus. I'd suggest the lasting value of C++ is because it's like the crappy 1st or 2nd version of the software you make and then finally you get to version 3 (Java) or 4 (C#) or 5 (Rust/Python) and it's pretty damn good. To get to the better stuff, the earlier crap attempts were necessary learning experiences.

As I read the OP, I thought it was mostly about which tasks/powers/judgements are we reluctant to hand off to a computer program, no matter how much the programmers have obfuscated the actual flow control.

The part about traceability made me laugh-snort.

Until self-driving cars are successfully mass-deployed, I'm not going to lose any sleep over Sky Net.
