Frankly I think the GP is not on the same wavelength as most eve players who are currently unhappy.

The big issue as I see it relates to the fact Eve Online is a game about spaceships... in space, previously most or all development efforts at CCP have been adding new content in the form of NPC missions, new shiptypes, alterations to PVP mechanics and other things which contribute to the fun you can have being a spaceship. However lately with the addition of monocles and changes to spacestations (the ability to walk around a small room) it feels like their development focus has moved away from spaceships, and now the core of the game is neglected.

Although the community would be even more up in arms if there was tiered service which gave someone an advantage in regular play.

It is interesting you say this as one of the largest purchasers has also spent vast sums of isk on ingame lotteries and is listed on their highest purchaser list.

I would also like to point out that Eve news 24 has a poor reputation for publishing stories without any fact checking, furthermore they have notably removed people from the list of "outed" isk buyers.

Wouldn't normally reply to myself, but since you can buy PLEX (a gametime card) for ingame currency (which is how you convert PLEX to isk) you can buy ISK at the lower real money price by buying isk, and then buying game time in game. This is probably the 2nd most common use of isk purchase

That's one way, I've not personally investigated this but I've been told that Skype also uses UDP to punch through the firewall... since it is a connectionless protocol many home firewalls can't really tell if the "connection is open or closed" as with normal TCP traffic.

So each of the client blindly send a UDP packet to each other as negotiated by the skype server.

Client A's firewall sees UDP traffic going out from Client A Port 1 to Client B Port 2
Client A's firewall says "aha this must be some kind of connection I can't monitor the status of, so I will allow traffic back"

Client B doesn't receive the packet because its firewall thinks this is some junk.
Client B then sends a packet from Port 2 to Client A Port 1.

Both firewalls now believe there is legitimate traffic between the two, despite the fact their both firewalled and/or NATed as may be appropriate.
