I'm just saying there's more to the situation than just helping someone who's lost their job. Society as a whole benefits from the stability these social programs provide. And I figured that since your compassionate side appears to be lacking I would appeal to your selfish side.

If compassion isn't enough to make you support unemployment, think about it this way: The most dangerous people are those with nothing to lose. When a man has to put a gun to your head to pay his rent I doubt you'll be lecturing him on how he could have avoided the whole situation if only he had saved.

This exact thing has been my biggest problem with Pandora. With all that information about what songs relate to each other, you would think they would know that going from "Brain Damage" to any song other than "Eclipse" is going to sound very off. On a related note, whenever a song from Dark Side of the Moon starts playing on Pandora, a lot of times I'll just stop it and play the whole album off my phone to hear it in all it's glory.

I don't think I've ever gone more than a couple days without being able to find any weed. Usually there are a half dozen people I can get it from at any given time, although sometimes we'll go a month without having any really good weed around or at least good weed at standard price ($50 an eighth). Speaking of which, I think the fact that weed pretty much has a set street price that's fairly constant throughout the country says a lot about the availability of it and the futility of the war on drugs. Also, being 20 it's generally much harder to find alcohol for a party than weed.

An anonymous reader writes "DailyTech reports that Valve's Steam content distribution system has been compromised. According to the article a hacker claims to have 'bypassed Valve's security system and accessed a significant chunk of data, including: screenshots of internal Valve web pages, a portion of Valve's Cafe directory, error logs, credit card information of customers, and financial information on Valve.'"

AMD's Showcases Quad-Core Barcelona CPU 190

Gr8Apes writes "AMD has showcased their new 65nm Barcelona quad-core CPU. It is labeled a quad-core Opteron, but according to Infoworld's Tom Yeager, is really a redefinition of x86. Each core has a new vector math processing unit (SSE128), separate integer and floating point schedulers, and new nested paging tables (to vastly improve hardware virtualization). According to AMD, the new vector math units alone should improve floating point operation by 80%. Some analysts are skeptical, waiting for benchmarks. Will AMD dethrone Intel again? Only time will tell."
