I would so watch that show! Every week, they take us to a company to look over their pathetic network and re-do it properly and with moar power. I can see it now...the teary-eyed IT manager is brought in to see his new network...it'd be like Bob Vila for geeks.

I remember reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand in Grade 11. The whole class read it, and we spent days discussing and dissecting it. It had a fairly graphic rape scene, as I recall, and nobody seemed to have any problems with that. And it was a Catholic school!

Well, I did say it was only five seconds of googling. I doubt the BASIC of 'Bill Gates and Woz' would be appropriate for a modern device, anyways. I have some very unfond memories of trying to produce graphics in BASIC on my VIC-20 when I was very young, and it only had 176 x 184 pixels.

Meraki has outdoor access points available, but I think they cost more. Several RV parks here in British Columbia switched to Meraki this summer and have dramatically improved their reliability over their previous systems (purely anecdotal...other than knowing they went to Meraki, I don't know what else they changed or how much "better" it is, I just noticed I could connect consistently and with usable bandwidth, unlike before when it was hit-or-miss).

You mean like 4G network operators? I guess you must roll your own mobile broadband service.

Getting back to seriousness, most RV campgrounds cost money to stay at, and the money you pay pays for services like Wifi, kinda like the money you pay to Verizon for your 4G. This sounds a lot like what the OP was talking about.

Good luck with your radical self-reliance, though. I hope you have time to weave your own clothes while you're growing your own food and designing your own computers.

1000 nights isn't at all unreasonable over the life of the RV. My retired parents have been RVing full time for close to ten years. That's over 3000 nights. Most RV parks (the ones old people would want to stay in, anyways) charge a fee to stay, nowhere near as much as a motel, but still something.

Only if the 3G iPad is also an iPhone. A 3G iPod Touch would be more like that than an iPhone.

Right now Siri is 4S only, which means the majority of app users (ie, anyone on an iPod Touch, iPad, or pre-4S iPhone) are shut out. When 4S has some more saturation, and the 3G iPod Touch is released (Siri requires always-on connectivity, making it a poor fit for a non-3G Touch), Apple will open a Siri API for developers.

I don't understand why Apple doesn't make a school-oriented version of the iPad. Plexiglass screen for the kiddies, some kind of built-in LoJack, distinctive looking case so the kids' parents can't pawn them, etc.

That makes sense. Now that Google has all these patents, do you think it will go down that way (cross-licensing)?

I don't understand why Google and Apple don't just sit down and agree to let each other use all their patents. Then they really could compete on the strength of their own innovations, rather than wasting all this money on lawyers. The customers will go to the one who implements the patents better.

I have an old HTC Hero that has a badly cracked screen, that I'd love to repurpose as a UPnP audio server over Wifi, but every method I've seen to root it requires touching the screen at some point (and I don't know how to get VNC access without rooting it). Is there a way, or is it garbage now?
